Boston and Longboards

Alright so I search barred and couldnt quite find what I wanted.

I'm going to Boston this fall for school and I wanted board to get around and to class. Being Boston, the city I suppose I'd want something that turns pretty quick. I'm brand new to Longboarding so any info would help. Suggestions on what type of board would be nice. All the research I've been doing so far is jibberish with all these new words like pin tail and stuff.. So

whatcha got for me?

imo you are going to want a shorter board with a kick tail. a kick tail if you don't know is a lip on the tail of the board so you can push down on it like a normal skateboard. also the shorter board will allow for fasster turns. I would say go for an Abor board. they are great for begginers

What up man. Im going to Northeastern and im bringing my 40 inch kicktail. I think it might be just a little bit too long but if i throw on some loose randals it will be fine.

If your going to buy a longboard for boston i would probably consider getting something between 30-33 inches, maybe even shorter assuming you would be doing mostly sidewalk crusing. I would also recommend some loose trucks to carve hard and weave through people and such.

Now I'm also a beginner but I just bought mine and I did ALOT of reaserch before making my choice. Some boards i would suggest looking at would be the Loaded Fish (loadedboards.com) or the Bustin spliff (www.bustinboards.com).  Now those are just two that come to mind since I wasn't looking for a short board.


PS Take a look around on www.silverfishlongboarding.com it's like the NS of longboarding. TONNES of great info.

sector 9 boards are sick. i use mine to get around town. just set your trucks super loose and ull be fine.

get a 36" kicktail if your going to be in the city the whole time. picking up a board all the time/ having anything bigger would just be a bitch

yeah anything that is around 35 inches wil be good. If your not doing any downhill and are just going from around town then your should try to keep the deck low so your leg doesn't get tired (65-70mm wheels, concave boards- Which is the bend that dips in on a board holding your feet in, also let you hold a little bit bigger wheels with less risers, or hell you could get a cutout all together). I would get a stiff board with a kick  and some decent room between the nose and the front truck so when you get bored just cruising around you can have some fun and do some shuvits or whatever. you can ollie a 35" board high enough to start having some fun. Don't worry about what trucks you get too much because if your just starting then you will probably like the ones you have and inless your bombing hills at 40mph they really don't matter that much.

ride a regular skateboard its the easiest to carry around and skate around a city ollieing curbs and stuff

Pretty much the exact advice I'd have given. Loaded's are a little expensive, but are dope.....


the Bustin Spliff would also be my personal recommendation. I have the Bustin Complex board, which is a little longer, and I have Seismic trucks..... you're gonna want to go with Randall's. Dunno what else they're offering, but stay away from gullwings trucks.



silverfish is also the place to be for longboarding.

I have a 40" fishtail, and that thing does not turn quick at all so don't get that.

How do you like your dervish elsewhere? I have one coming in the mail, and I haven't tried it yet. Though everyone who has one basically loves it, so I took a 300$ leap of faith.
What do you think of the dervish?

the bustin spliff looks like its pretty nice. 185$ isnt cheap though. Maybe I'll get it for graduation?

You could try the Sector 9 City Crusher. It's kind of expensive for a mid-sized board but it sounds perfect for what your looking for. It's long enough to do some hills, and it's small enough to fit in a locker. Since it's mid-sized, it will also turn fairly quick.

sector 9 cosmic or bustin spliff......for what im going to be doing?....obviously the spliff is more expensive, but the cosmic is right in the length range with a kick tail and cheaper. what do you think?
