Replying to For the people who are doubting global warming
In that other thread people were saying it was acceptable to ignore global warming because the "average global temperature" wasnt rising despite polar cap melting.
Consider the other consequences. Polar melting is increasing sea level worldwide, and also will change the ocean currents which will drastcally change world weather. The increase in sea level can result in over 20 feet of rising sea, which means a lot of places will flood, (Florida, coastal countries). Storms are gonna get worse and worse. We've already seen an increase of terrible storms in the last few years. Katrina and in south east asia. Many of the hottest years on record have been in the last few years.
In terms of skiing, all the worlds glaciers are melting. Mt. Hood may be getting more snowfall, but that doesnt have anything to do with temperature, which will rise. I know on the east coast winters have been getting worse and worse, generally with shorter and warmer winters.
I dont think scientists fully understand the effects of that much carbon in our atmposphere, but global warming will be exponential if it degrades the ozone layer at a faster rate, which has been proven to occur.
If anything, acting green preserves the amount of fossil fuels we have and reduces our dependency on them, which is economically wonderful since billions of dollars and spent on import of oil from Russia and the middle east to America. Canada has oil sands, but thats another issue entirely.
Just because average world temperatures seem to be stagnant, doesnt mean you or skiing will not be affected. We all surely will. I just hope that skiing lasts as long as it possibly can.
