Not the site itself. im feelin the layout, all the new content, etc. the ads arent really a problem other than that beeping shit but that got taken care of.
its the people on this site. when i joined sure there was hate but for the most part it was still a site about skiing. now its a site about hating on everyone and everything that doesnt conform to what one person likes. i realize that we cant really control who joins but seriously, what happened to a skiing community. now it a skiing fashion show and hatefest

its pretty annoying that all these noobs (well, relatively speaking) think the site is just always filling with hate as though it is some recent phenomena. Yea, there is hate spewing bullshit, and yea, it grows, but pretty much proportionally to the site growth. Lots of little dumbshits come out of the woodwork and find this site, and feel as though just posting everything they feel like will make them cool, so there is an overload of just shit. But its always been that way. There is still plenty of good shit. I just don't understand why people can't use their own damn filter and just skim the shit to find the good stuff, especially all the high and mighty "we're-so-much-better-and-more-mature-than-everybody-else-so-I-have-to-make-an- announced-departure-from-NS-because-as-I-said-I-am-just-so-smug-and-so-much-better-than-this-site that-has-been-decaying-over-the-past-few-years" type pros. That kind of crap always leads to some rambling discussion as people try to remember the "golden days" of which there is no consensus because everybody joined at different times. Face it, its out there, big fucking deal. It's summer (well, damn close to it) so there is a noticeable shift. So what.
Just face it, with increasing numbers of people using the site comes growing number of dumbasses, hate, etc., but also pluses emerge. While not a "tight knit" community as it was when it was founded and shortly thereafter, there are ways to make NS better to each user. It is not unique to now. It always has been, and probably will be. Or something. Damnit

everyone on the internet's 6'5", 250 pounds, and benches trucks for fun. the ones spewing hate and knocking others are the ones w/personal issues who usually don't like themselves. it's typically early teenagers and it's growing up thing. most people go through it.

Nothing is really changing. Still lots of good shit on here, still lots of bad. But like someone else said, its the internet and any message board that is lightly moderated ends up like this. Unless you want a 100% clean to everyone site with have zero offensive content, your going to get some fuckheads signing up.
What is the best way to fix this problem? Stop adding to it yourself! Every drops some hate once in a while (understandable) but over 100 000 members that adds up during the day in the forums...think about it rationally people. Instead of adding more hate to the boards, why not add something useful instead. I'm sure we;ve all seen enough varitations of the post "SEARCHBAR N0Ob!!1!11!" so why not just searchbar yourself and post the link for them? Sometimes people do use the searchbar and find nothing (lulz @ ns searchbar :p).

ive been on this site for a long time, and i gotta say, the hate isnt that bad recently. it was worse last year. the only thing i see a lot of hate on is, 1. afterbang, and 2. telling people to searchbar. its not so bad... maybe i just filter shit out mentally, but last year was way worse

as this is my 4th year on this site, i've got to say it gets worse and worse every year.. let me explain..
when i first joined this site in 2005 i thought it was the fucking shit (i still somewhat do). coming on here as a young grom, seeing some videos of some other skiers killing it, pictures etc.. it was all dope. but it was something about the site back then that makes it different then what it is today. granted i have only been around for half as long as NS has existed, but back in 2005, there were way less than half of the number of members that there are now. it just seems that now that NS has truly blown up.. it doesn't feel as much of a "community" as it did with 50,000 members or whatever. now that everyone and their dad has a pair of twin tip skis, it doesn't feel as special to share a connection with a fellow newschooler as it did when I had my first pair of twin tip skis.
i'm sure it also had to do with ATLANTASKI and Lateralis and a few others that made it so good too, but the sad thing is, I bet 90 percent of the kids on here don't even know who Harvey is.
and i really don't mean to sound like a "veteran" to this site, i'm just trying to share my NS experience and how it's changed since i've joined. but i must say, the 50 mb video limit, blogs, reviews, homepage, site layout.. all the new features are fucking dope.

A lot of people fail to realize that it's not just newschoolers.com that is changing, but it's our sport as a whole. Freeskiing is really blowing up and twin tips are becoming more and more common. With such huge growth comes changes that can't be avoided, but have to be embraced. Yeah there's a lot more people on NS and it has lost some of this "community" vibe many of you are mentioning, but think about all the good things that come with more people. Yeah ads aren't the best, but look at all the cool features we have access to. If you only focus on the negative, then guess what? You're only adding to the negative.
Take the time to find the good in the bad. Yeah summertime sucks, but guess what? There's nothing anybody can do about it, so why not spread the love and not the hate.

This site goes up and down up and down. It changes from season to season. You have only been here for 2 years and after a while you will start to notice that thats just the way it is. There are too many threads about this.
