So i have a problem...

me and my dad built an amazing set up. a nice stable drop in, and a nice 14+- in high 10 ft rail. so of course when the first time i use it i put blocks under the begging so i can have a urban down rail set up. now he is super pissed and says i cant have anything over a foot because he is afraid i will have some one over who will some how fall and break their neck off a 2 ft rail, and that we will be sued for all we are worth.

but when i tell him most rails at my resort are 2ft up, and the resorts find it safe. he says it dosnt matter because they have special insurance so they can do what ever they want.

so how do i convince my dad that we arnt gonna be sued if i build a rail that is 2+ft feet up so i can have some fun and learn alot this summer?

CLIFFNOTES: my dad says any rail over a foot high is dangerous and i cant build it.this is really hampering my skiing fun, how do i convince him otherwise?

god i hate dads like yours, always expecting the worst never have any fun.... if hes that gay about it, write up liability waivers and have your friends parents sign them

print an insurance waver, like something to get people to sign n date voiding there rights to sue you. put up a use at your own risk every where.

word, thats what i would do. ur dad will get pissed at you for doin it but in a way ur just throwin the ball back his direction. plus, this way u know u wont get sued...

i should add that he feels this way because one of our neighbor had a sick mini terrain park in his field. and one of his friends fell on a high rail and ruptured his spleen or something. but it was like a 4ft rail.

i dont think ones you make hold up well in court. thats really shitty. we had to take down our trampoline because mad kids would jump when we werent there

well the forces involved are doubled when you increase the height by a factor of two... so it's hard to show a stat. I mean the forces are still relatively small, but they are in fact doubled.

Except a 2ft rail IS more dangerous than a 1ft.  Still, it's the same risk as standing on a couch and falling off.

People are gonna fall, that goes hand in hand with rails man.

What can't you learn on a 1ft high rail that you could learn on a 2ft high rail? Only dif is the height, if he doesn't want you hitting shit more then a foot high you should just do that.

Then come this winter if you hit something that's 5ft high you should be able to trick it just the same. Height has nothing to do with learning new tricks on a rail, unless your spinning off, even then I would argue it. You can spin 4's off shit that's like half a foot off the ground, I have done it.

Your lucky he is even letting you set something up, let alone helped you. I'd suggest obey his rules and be thankful you have something to ski all summer long.

tell your dad to quit being a pussy. it's just a rail, you aren't gonna die hitting a 2 ft. rail. hell my dad helped me build 4 foot rails in my yard.

my parents were like this with everything whether it was no inverts on trampolines or no backyard rails that were too high. i would just be jumping on the trampoline and be like "hey dad watch" and just throw a backflip, and he realized im in control and not gonna kill myself. i would say just build the rail higher over the summer, and be like "hey dad" and slide it fine. he'll realize hes over reacting and dampering the potential sickness of your backyard.

I think an easier and more logical solution to your problem would be to simply have some kind of lawyer holocaust so your friends can't sue you if the situation arises. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

i want to work on urban on's and it cant be as long if its flat as if it was a down rail, and to do that one end needs to be higher than a foot. i guess i just really hope to improve alot this summer and i dont want this to hold me back in a way.

this would be super lame, but maybe you could have your friends sign a contract, stating that if they got hurt, they cannot sue you or make one of these signs.

You should def listen to your dad. Respecting his decision will only benefit you. Maybe you could slay this set-up for the beginning part of the summer, and if you still find you want it higher, say "Dad, I've been hitting this rail for a while now, and I realize I need it just a bit higher - so can I please raise it a foot?".

get ur friends parents to sign some weaver or something that states that they cant fine u or anything if their child gets hurt or u could just stick with a small rail and just progress on that

ya has to be a legally binding contract. get a lawyer to draft it up but even then hardly worth the effort or expense

you could make wavers...thats the only real solution if you seriously need a two foot high rail...but honestly you can progress so much with just a flat one foot high rail...and i understand you want to work on your lip ons but you can also try and master all these tricks first....
