it'd be dope if they did go mainstream. then maybe other rappers might start to write some shit that meant something. people will start to realize what being an mc is all about, let slug set the bar high, way high.

Honestly yeah, if MTV approached me with the amount of money they came to Atmosphere with... I probably would've taken it too. It doesn't have to be underground to be good, as long as he doesn't dumbing down his music for the new audiences he's getting. As someone up there said - hopefully it will show other MCs that rhyming about the club and getting hyphy isn't the only option. Although Slug rapped for a looong time before he made it to MTV...

i honestly don't think they will catch on with mainstream audiences. most kids my age (high school) wouldn't appreciate his music or his lyrics. i think it is just a phase, and if it brings some more money and exposure to atmosphere, that's a good thing.
but honestly, most of the kids who watch MTV would rather listen to a song like lollipop anyways.

personally, ive never really listened to atmosphere. but i think its really stupid that people dont listen to music just b/c its mainstream. i find that ridiculously stupid, b/c its the same music, just more people listen to it

your taking it in the wrong direction. i mean, yeah, i want the underground artists to get their dues and what not, but not from little girls and emo fags. i think atmosphere should realize what there motives were in the beginning and then start from their. right after a ceasing of ALL atmosphere stuff on MTV.

that's stupid. it doesn't matter who listens to the music, that changes nothing. as long as they're listening to the music that the artist writes, not the artist writes the music the "little girls and emo "fags"" listen to. i'm sure slug didn't write an album for mtv, it just so happens that mtv thinks some people might be ready for some music with substance, we'll see if that's actually the case.

Have you given their music a real listen? I honestly don't think a fan of hip hop can possibly dislike Atmosphere, at least their old shit.

um...whoever has hated on his new shit have you even HEARD his new CD? So intellectual, so chill, relaxing. I'm a much bigger fan of his new stuff. Yesterday, Like the Rest of Us, and Shoulda Known are all amazing songs. It doesn't even matter if he's famous now...good for him. His music is still dope.

It was a good CD, but I have to say... I'm nearly as impressed with Lemons as I am his old stuff. Songs like The Arrival, Smart Went Crazy, Always Coming Back Home to You, Musical Chairs... shit is just unbeatable. I definitely like the new stuff, don't get me wrong, and I don't think it has anything to do with his fame, but Lemons just doesn't live up to his first few albums.

I guess... I certainly wouldn't call it new, those were around back at the very beginning of Sad Clown, he's up to fucking like 11 now. They weren't off the dub tapes either.

Honestly I really don't see how anyone who likes hip hop wouldn't like Atmosphere, and I mean that in as unpretentious and douchebagish a way as possible. I don't like all of his stuff but when he nails it... wow. Catchy ski-friendly beats, funny-ass lyrics, quality rhymes, excellent flow, and he talks about stuff damn near everyone can relate to. Yeah, there are numerous artists who do some of those those things a lot better than Atmosphere, but Slug and Ant do a damn good job of putting it all together.

Atmopshere's songs are catchy, fun to listen to, and have meanings that 95% of people can relate to. Even if theyre not your cup of tea, you have to respect them for what theyve done for hip hop.
lets leave it at that

To all them haters out there get tha fuck off atmosphere's nuts. Slug is a raw ass rapper. The only reason why y'all hatin is cuz this world is made to bag on the establishment. atmosphere's so big now they're starting to become the establishment so y'all hatin now. They went all the way up to the top of the charts as an indie label so how can u say they're mainstream when they not even signed? Fuck it, hate on them all u want cuz its only making them hotter.
