A new world record was set last night in the men's 100m dash. Set by Usain Bolt of Jamaica with a time of 9.72 seconds. Which means he was running a pace of about 25.5 - 26mph.

I believe it is the max speed he hit. Because being a sprinter i know it takes elite sprinters about 50-70 meters to reach their max speed and then the last 30 meters is holding your speed.
