Rappers' tear tats?

so rappers like lil wayne and others have tattoos of tears next to thier eyes. i heard this means that they killed someone like each tear represents a person they killed? is that true? or is a person in thier crew that died?

Yeah it has to do with death. The game always raps about how his tear drop is getting bigger and bigger or something like that.
