Y catholic schools suck

Catholic school really isn't all that bad...

Do they teach you about how Jesus rode on dinosaurs? sorry. That was dick. But seriously wondering if they teach the scientific method in catholic school?

I go to a catholic military school...its the best of both worlds!

in my hometown the catholic schools have way worse reputations for drugs, teen pregnancies and just general fuck ups

My kids are in Catholic School, because Denver Public Schools failed us miserably. One of my kids is ADD with a dash of processing issues. We ended up at our Catholic School, because we had pretty much exhausted everything else. Now, I realize that it was the best thing that ever happened to us. I know that all Catholic Schools are not the same, but ours is amazing. After being told by other schools that they either wouldn't accept my child or would put her in a segregated Spec Ed room, we just about fell out of our chairs when the Principle told us, "Here, we don't choose you; you choose us. If you feel that this is the right place for your child; we welcome them with open arms". Basically, leaving my kids in our local public school would have amounted to child abuse.

I thought I was one of very few people on here to go to a catholic school. Surprised to see how many people on here do. My high school isn't really too bad though. OP does have some valid points

You can take a school down for not letting your child have a 504 plan. Its a right to have it.

Yeah, it only takes about $50,000 in legal fees, with no assurance that you will win. If you do win, you may get your legal fees reimbursed by the district. The next year you will more than likely have to go through the same process again, because an IEP is a plan that is designed to change every year. The district just says, you got your accommodations last year, but the IEP team has determined that what you got last year is not what your child needs this year.

We knew people who took the district to court, won and then had to fight the same battle every year. We started down that path, but realized that what we were fighting for ultimately wasn't worth fighting for. Seriously, Denver Public Schools pissed me off so bad that I volunteered to serve on the Board of Directors for a non-profit that advocates for people with disabilities.

The district did get their asses sued off by someone for discrimination. They made some superficial changes, but it really isn't any better than it was before. I have no regrets about moving my kids to Catholic School. It's so much better, it's ridiculous.

Wack. It's real fucked up how large of a backseat this stuff takes. Denying a child help is beyond fucked up. I have maybe one teacher this year that actually uses my plan and checks up to see that I'm not swamped.
