So with all this wasckly weather happening these days, I thought to myself, "what should Golden/my house be afraid of?".
Nature's a bitch, she'll kill you with ways that no one can stop.
Now luckily, I live the the mountains, so no tornados or hurricanes here, but Golden has had many flood and ice jam warnings. Luckily I live up on a bench, the river in the Blaeberry Valley (20 km's from Golden) floods lots, destroying little crop, still, the damage is there. Mudslides happen, I hear them, no worry. Rockslides are the biggy. I live right under a mountain.

Those were just my examples, they should give you an idea of what I'm getting at.

Now NS, I want to hear from you. Where you live and what your biggest danger is.

Hmm..seeing as I live in SEPA (Southeast PA) there's not TOO much to worry about here. Tornado warnings come up in the summer on occasion, but they never touch down/form. Thunderstorms can get nasty here but besides that..flooding's the only real danger I suppose..there's a shitload of creeks, rivers, etc. 'round here.

ah we have the beautiful sun/rain/thundershower predicted everyday and mainly its been sunny..
we are lucky and rarely have floods in beautiful whistler bc.

im from tahoe were in a draught so there no floods but when it does a lot cause of one of those few big storms wer get rockslides and the river can overflow over one of the main roads but thats about it. a lot of earthquakes lately too

there is absolutely NO danger to me
no floods, no mountains, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, no rockslides, no earthquakes
not even big storms

i dont know what to worry about in Vancouver

other than like the water rising so much that all the houses and shit are destroyed

oh and there was a pretty bad storm that made a huge vancouver park emotionally hard to look at

anyone in van know of something else that could happen?

pretty much.

but a "snowstorm" that is followed by a 90% chance of death is usually like 6-8" of snow, max.

we've had one tornado around here that i know of, and it was in 1994 or something like that. like 10 houses and a curtis lumber got hit and thats about it

floods include big puddles that might be dangerous to drive through, if you live near a lake then the lake might be like 2' higher than usual, and the water might go onto a road or something.


so basically, if we have a "sever thunderstorm warning", ill make sure we have a flashlight around, then go sit on my porch and watch the whole thing.

Because of the unusualy large amount of snow we received this year the elk have stayed at lower elevations, which means their predators have also. We have had more mountain lion sightings, but nothing serious. We have a huge problem with bears in the summer because stupid people (mostly jackasses on vacation) leave their garbage, houses, cars or garages unlocked and the bears break in. The real tragedy is that if a bear has more than three incidents they have to put it down.

polar ice caps melting and raising the ocean level.

mt baker erupts and smothers us in debris 40 feet thick.

mt rainer erupts and either takes half of washington with it, or dumps toxic ash into the air then we all die anyway.

china/russia decides that seattle and the surrounding areas would be a good first target for their nukes.

I live north of Calgary and i'd say all we really have is floods sometimes. Quite a bit of snow in winter but no tornado's or anything like that.
