RAILS ARENT SKIING! too many people only care about sliding a little plastic box instead of ripping pow and actually skiing. rail skiing is todays ballet skiing, its a fad that will wear off. unless you ski at a shitty mountain where the only good thing u have to hit is rails. ive seen too many people hiking rails on powder days and its gayyyy. rant rant rant. Dont get me wrong i like hitting rails in the park too, its just they are one little part of skiing and people make them the most important thing
i agree to an extent. rail jams are still fun, and some people like sliding rails, especially in the east coast. no one has right to tell another person how to have fun. its called FREEstyle skiing for a reason...
i hike rails all the time on pow days. 9-12 riding pow is tiring. plus by then most shit is tracked out unless you go out of bounds. and i dont know much about snow science so i stay in bounds... which is why i hike rails in the afternoon.
i think you have a point, but it ain't no fad. rails are fun and are always going to be. snowboarders have said that rails are a fad too. but the reality is that jibbing goes back to the late 80s/early 90s and its not not going anywhere.
Hey I'm frenchy88 and I'm going to see how people people I can piss off in one day. Fuck I hate people like you. There is nothing wrong with rails or powder but why do you have to put one of them down. Do you think your motivational or inspirational, because you're not.
dude u are an idiot, its not because SOME people hike rails on powder that rail jams are killing skiing! N who cares if they do hike rails on a powder day, as long as they're enjoying it. It doesnt stop you from hitting the pow, it even leaves more
i disagree, i live on the east coast and my home mountain has want or ability to make decent jumps and there is really nothing i can do about it. so in turn i have to hit a shit load of rails, and i have gotten pretty good but i still lack in terms of my jumping skills. dude i don't think it is a fade that will wear out, rails have existed from the beginning and i don't feel a lot of people feel the way you do, at least not enough to faze them out
not true, look at the history of rail shoots in videos, every year they up the game. If you wanna see it on an even bigger scope peep snowboarding movies.
They keep progressing just like every other facet of the sport.
Not knocking your opinion, just think you should back it up with some fact.
fucken park rats, if ur honestly gonna hike a rail or hit the park on a powder day u are a complete FAILURE at life, grow up and grow some ballz and shredd the powder
who cares let people do whatever the fuck they want, maybe they just love rails who knows and even better if they do because there's more fresh pow for us the ones that don't spend pow days in the park.
the people who ski ralis all day even on a powder day are failures, they just do it cause they suck dick at real skiing, don't no how to stand up in pow, and would rather hit a little 10ft gay ass rail and hike it a couple dosen times and then go and hit another gay rail because it's all they can do is jib
rail jams give new life to skiing. its an easy way to bring our sport to people that have never seen it before. example:
sure there are some people there that already knew how cool skiing is but there are a ton who didn't. its the easiest way to show other people first hand
i might be able to understand your point a little better if i lived in alaska or utah and actaully had powder but where i live the only thing we have are rails. i understand you might not need to be a "good" skier to slide rails but it take an amazing amount of skill to slide a rail and if you are hating on kids for it then obviosly you have never tried to slide a kinked handrail over cement stairs
for kids on the eastcoast rails are the only thing that they to sesh, why do you care if some kids decide to hit a rail on a powder day, just means that there is more pow for you.
haha well said... I know I always used to make fun of some of the guys at my hill who used to ride the park on one of the maybe two or three pow days we would get a season. Thing is, they were having fun, and I was having fun, and there was more pow for me to ski, so it was all good. Gotta do what you enjoy, 'nuff said.
I spent the majority of my season in off-piste or backcountry or whatever you wanna call it, but rails are the shit. Rails are definitely a great part of skiing. The best part, everyone can relate to rail skiing. Face it pal, you can't ski pow all year round, but you can definitely jib all year round. You can get creative and tech too. BC skiing is by far my favorite type of skiing but I can still admit rails are suuuper fun.
sorry to break it to ya dude but rails arnt a fad they are now a part of skiing. and if you love your pow so much you should be happy there are idiots hiking the rails in the park. (more pow for you that isnt getting tracked out).
i know im gonna get hated on for saying this but pow suckssss! i proby just say that cause i dont get pow where i live but rails bring a whole new scene to skiing and everybody loves it
so just because you think pow is the best part of our sport means everything else isnt as important
alot of us think rails or jumps are the best part of our sport but we dont hate on backcountry
either way skiing is skiing so lets respect all the aspects of the sport not just our favorite
I agree to a certain extent... but love hitting urban ... jibs in parks are lame and I definitely prefer jumps, and as for powder, i've never really experienced it being from the REAL east coast(ottawa), but i'm sure i'd prefer pow to rails. I just have trouble picturing skiing as purely jibbing because I hate to see ALL urban parts in ski movies. I thinks that rails are kind of a fad right now in the sense that they totally take over parts in ski films, but i think in time there will be more of a balance between urban and the different elements of skiing in ski movies.
Go fuck yourself Frenchy! FREEskiing is whatever you make it. VERY few people hike rails on powder days. and you know what? half the time you get a powder day in eastern areas your better off hittin urban rails cuz everything is so damn flat at the hill. Rail jams take rail skiing a new a new level, forces people to push themselves and by the end of the jam they are doing things they wouldnt think they were capable of doing on the feature. I would gladly take a pow day on good terrain over any rail, but i hardly am faced with that choice
ahahaha you are so fucking stupid. you think it is just so easy to hit a rail and do shit on it. your just jealous cuz you cant do rails and you wish you could so now you are going to rip on people who are good at them and can do them. i bet it takes way more skill to do a rail than ski some pow
alright son, let me get a little touchy feely artsy fartsy on you for a minute, k? good.
so yanno how when you're little, they take you to art class, and you paint and you draw. pretty basic stuff which is defined as an 'art' class. but if you look around right now, so many things are considered art. hell there's modern artists who probably puke on a canvas, let it stain, and then sell it in a gallery. freakin' painting done by elephants have sold for thousands of dollars. but at the end of the day, people still categorize them as art.
->where i'm going with this is, skiing is much like the situation described above. so many things fall under one category, and while one thing may be outrageously different from the next, you can't dismiss it. do i rip on my racer friends? yes. do i rip on my snowboarder and tele friends? of course, but when it all comes down to it, they still wake up early to go to the mountain just like i do. who cares if they're in the glades or the park? hitting deep pow in the winter or grinding against urban cement in the summer? i think it's ignorant to say something is killing our sport, just because it's different. if you don't like rail jams, then don't attend them. but as mentioned before, with photos, look at the exposure that railjams bring to our sport. they can be set-up almost anywhere and provide the public with an interesting look into our lives as snow fanatics. it's really sad to see you hate on something that could do wonders for this industry in the long run (if done correctly).
now, i did just rant the hell out of you, but i'm at work and i have nothing to do and i sincerely think you're wrong.
don't hate cos you ain't.
ski resorts are killing skiing, there were no chairlfit in the beginning people would travel on skis. Now with the arrival of ski resorts and uberly expensive lift tickets and lunch at the mountian skiing have became an elistic sport that many cant afford to do.
rails are cheap and you dont need brand new skis to shred on them. in fatc no matter how beat up your skis are you can pretty much still hit rails with them.
