Wireless help

I'm trying to get this old pentium 3 laptop to connect to a WPA2 protected network with a Belkin Wireless G Notebook Network card. The card supports WPA and WPA2 security yet when I try to set up a new wireless network, WPA2 isn't in the options for network authenctication. I have installed the WPA2 hotfix on the laptop and the Windows wireless client update but still nothing...



Any ideas/suggestions would be awesome.

i got a mac so i think its kinda different but id suggest calling up geek squad something like that or a friend you know is good with computers.

Are you using windows Zero Config service or the belkin card connection manager?

Windows wireless connection. Although neither show the WPA2 option when configuring a new connection.

XP Home is the absolute worst at networking. I think win93 was better. Its going to be very hard diagnosing without being about to try things and actually looking at it. Have a friend help you out.

It picks up and connects to WEP based connections no problem. Just doesnt have the WPA2 shit show up which is irritating the fuck outta me.

I'm trying to set this up for my boss since he doesnt know how and I got it working on the one network here (WEP) but he wants to be able to connect to the bigger network (WPA2) and its not having it...

Home doesn't support that type of network so it doesn't matter if it can connect, if it can't understand what's happening, it's not going to be of much use.

On my own personal laptop I have XP Home and I can connect to the WPA2 network here no problem though so I'm not sure if its XP Home or just the wireless card.

We have it rolled back to the driver it came with outta the box and it doesnt have WPA2 option even though it says right on the box it does.

Faulty card maybe?

Its possible. If it can connect I would think it's a driver issue though. XP may also be interpreting it as a different type of network.

i thought it might be driver issues too since we are using the stock drive that it came with (version 2) but it should work with version 2 stock (it says it does on the box).

He's taking the laptop with him for a couple days but after that I'm going to try and see if updating it help (he didnt want me to do it right now which is why I kind of arrived at a roadblock). Regardless though, it should work with the version 2 driver and it doesnt.

I emailed Belkin tech support but with a "72 hour reply window" I might not hear from them for a while...

I just want to cover ALLL of the bases here....you installed the WPA2 support drivers/hotfixes, SP2 is installed, and you've restarted the computer after all of this? Right? I'm sure you probably have, just need to make sure all the obvious things are covered.

yeah the computer has been restarted after everything major (uninstall, reinstall, and all update installs) even though it was nessecary for all of em. I just wanted to play ti safe since he mentioned before I started on it that there had been issues with the old beast.

its a fucking p3...hahaha

And does it have any Belkin software for wireless connection? Or can you find any online? Might work better with that if you can't get the windows built-in connection software to work. Windows XP Home is really terrible for networking and their software sucks. Might be able to get it to work with other stuff.
