You do need to see this movie. 1) It is a great movie cinematography wise. 2) It actually has a message and is a great look at all kinds of addiction. 3) it will really move your soul, I've never actually wanted parts of my life back but the first time I saw this movie I literally wanted the last 45min back and the end def leaves you feeling cold and alone, but it is a wonderful movie.
Please watch the unrated version though it's the true way he wanted it depicted.
i cant believe that anyone can say that they like this movie at all. it was hell for me to watch it, so long, dull, boring. not even a very good story. it made me want to blow my brains out, not because it was depressing but because i couldnt sit there watching shit for that long
I can totally accept the fact that this movie isn't for everyone, but seriously? You really think that's not a good story? Have you read the book before? Hubert Selby Jr. is a literary genius, and anyone who discredits his work has really lost their credibility in my eyes. Requiem For A Dream is easily in my top three books, if not my favorite.
no i have not read the book yet, and probably wont after seeing the movie first, it gave a bad impression on me. i guess it is a shame if it is a good book, because then the movie just slaughtered it for me because it is not very interesting at all. but movies that are made after books usually are not better then the original book, and im glad that requiem for a dream has that going for it.
just watched it. i definitely see where some could love, some could hate it. i liked it, gives you a super downer feeling, but it was well done. fucked up shit though.
The part that messed with me the most was the scene where they're talking on the phone right before the last scene. Movies don't usually affect me at all but that part was just so depressing.
probably not if you want to get with her during or after the movie
On that note and a random story, make sure your girlfriend doesn't mind certain things before you watch movies with her. My last GF, didn't like blood that much and was an animal lover. Lets just say Boondock Saints was not the best choice on our you pick one / I pick one movie nights
Your whole post was quite ignorant. Re-read what you just said. You couldn't stand it, you wanted to bow your brains out, so it obviously left an impression on you, negative or not. Therefore, the filmmaker won. Why would anyone think this is a GOOD movie? Why did it win so many awards and nominations? It's because the story is actually good. A large percentage of movie-goers are not drug addicts, therefore when exposed to a story that is out of our normal boundaries, one is subjected to feel out of place. Because of that, the film leaves a heavy impression on the viewer. Even if you are a drug abuser, the film still makes an impression. Just read the posts in this thread. The film evoked an emotion of some sort from just about everyone, and that is why it's so powerful. Not only that, but did you think to consider the Cinematography and editing? Example A/C Mark Schmidt's dolly shot throughout the entire house. Do you know what kind of time and effort goes into producing a film like this? Open your mid, sit down and shut up.
In terms of cinematography and sound design, Requiem For a Dream was literally a masterpiece. The Darren Aronofsky and Clint Mansell duo are the greatest thing to happen to film in the last few decades, in my opinion. oh and the story was good, too
