Marker Duke Questions

So im looking at getting a pair of the dukes to go with the praxis mtn jibs (similar to next years jj's).  The dukes look pretty solid but the only complaint i've heard about them is that the heel sometimes pulls out due to only one screw in that area.   This problem would also seem to be worse if you were landing switch off cliffs, which i will be doing with this setup next year.  I haven't broken a pair of bindings before, but i want this pair to last me awhile.  Basically i want to know...

       Has anybody had similar problems with their dukes?

       If so how much do you weigh, how hard do you charge, etc... 

       Would a possible pullout even be a problem for me at 5' 11", 160lbs?

       Are next years dukes changed in any way that would improve their switch landing durability?

i believe they added a washer to that screw, not sure why though. that screw ripping out is what would keep me away, but

Dukes have 0 screws from the heel piece to the ski but they connect to a plate which has 4 screws. I'm not sure where this 1 screw thing come from. Maybe the switch screw? The real question is how much touring do you plan on doing with these.

^^the one screw thing comes from all the threads ive read about the dukes.  everybody seemed to complain about a weak connction in the back of the binding.  i think it might be the screw for the lock.

i definately want some touring bindings again this year. i had the nx21 this year, but they became to big to use when i got new boots.  i tour around 20+ times a year, but they aren't extremely long trips.  don't bother suggesting that i get trekkers because they are shit.

No, dukes sound perfect for you. but you just answered your own question. What else are you going to get.

You've tried naxo's, dukes are better.
You don't want trekkers.
Freerides are about the same as your naxos

Your only options are dukes and dynafits. And one requires new boots.

i know that the dukes are pretty much my only option for a touring binding.  i was just wondering how they've held up for people doing similar stuff as me.

I'd worry about pre release before i'd worry about pull out. I've gone pretty big on mine and they've been fine. I don't land switch though.

Duke's are a shitty touring binding. If you want to ski hard, get Trekkers.

Why? That makes almost no sense. There isn't all that much stress on the switch screw. If you land switch with you weight presumably forward you are pushing down on the toe and pulling up on the heel. Which is connected directly to that plate. I can't see very much stress going to the switch screw.

And to sean pistol - I think they walk better than freerides

nomen is right on this, everything bad ive read has been from ppl doing switch landings. Everyone else seems to think they are bombproof

How/where have they broken? I've busted two pairs, but I never land switch. Marker's warranty is pretty sick though.

Problems come from using the lever when the binding is jammed with snow/ice. Using too much force bends that screw or something

bends the black metal piece connected to the lever. Which is what nomen is seeing break. It's not from landing switch, its from careless misuse. I should know I did it to one of my bindings already, luckily marker was pretty awesome and gave me a warranty pair.

in this picture you can see the screw i was originally referring to.  has anybody encountered problems with that screw? would using helicoils help prevent those problems?  thanks for any additional advice.

what the hell do you want us to say? Everybody who is saying anything has said it. The bindings will be more than fine for you. Just buy them.
