Maybe shorter skis like 160's will be the future for urban?

I've been watchin alot of blading lately and it hit me, maybe if we started using a little bit shorter skis it would be possible for us to skate into urban features or skate with the help of ramps to make things that require more speed possible. and another benefit to shorter skis would be making rail transfers much easier, making rails that were to close together for long skis possible for short skis. I think even skis as short as 150 may still be exceptable in the future. Just a thought I had, I am defenatley going to try it next season with some old skis.

just say the bare minimum has to be nipple height, otherwise thats dome whack ass snowblading.

nipple height< ski < hand above head height

I always thought skis should be at least as tall or taller than you to make them legit, cuz in my old opinion anything below the neck was a ski board, but with skis that are nipple  high so many possiblities could open up easier switch up spinning rail transfers, and most mportantly more speed options due to the potential for skating. not saying u should ride short skis in the park, but for urban it may help us evolve to the next level.

I use 161s anyway. If I wanted shorter skis, I'd probably have to use blades.

I dont get how u think we can skate faster with shorter skis. it doesnt matter how long ur skis are u can skate just as fast. also it will be harder to do bigger switch ups on shorter skis. because u dont have the same momentum in some cases.

it doesnt matter how long ur skis are, u will still skate the same speed. we dont have wheels on our skis. and longer skis in my opinion are better for big spin switch ups because they carry momentum once u start spinning

I respect your accomplishments as a skier, but you my friend have no idea what you are talking about. shorter skis = lighter skis making it easier to skate, along with less chance of hanging up on something while skateing. and another thing, it may be your opinion that longer skis are better for switchups, but think about figure skaters, do they have long skis helping them do 1080's 2 feet off the ground???? no its all about how you set it and the body position, not saying we should do 1080 switchups but I do beleive it is possible if a figure skateing technque is learned and used properly.

ever think about how that extra ski makes it so you can balance much better on a rail that you have almost no speed for, I think with centermounting we have the best of both worlds.  crazy short skis seems stupid to me

NOt all places you can skate into anyways.
I do urban on 181's and feel ok about it. Remember also that "urban" isnt just rails... not that a shorter ski would make a difference, bomb drops, wall rides, etc etc.

i refuse to ride on short skis and anyone in my sights with short skis is bombarded with a relentless onslaught of criticism, its mostly sarcastic banter though because i feel bad when i make the children cry...

yo people I'm not saying ski-boards or tiny skis I'm saying maybe skis 10-15cm shorter than you normally ride may perform better in an urban invironment. by no means am I saying short skis have anyplace in a terrain park. but for you who say shorter skis would be harder to balance, look at rollerblading, those peeps got ballance up the ass on an area an inch wide

It looks stupid when people's skis are too short for them. I also think it would look pretty silly on urban with really short skis.

na, shorter skis mite be easy to throw around, but shit for switch ride-away.if you land with weight way back for some reason you got nothing there...tho if you do that you deserve to fall anyways..

maybe some company could incorporate a groove into there skis. not like rollerblade groove, but like a 8 inch groove under foot with very low angles so the ski would still perform right.

i can def see that. im 6' and wont ride anyhting less that 181.. however i might try out my 169 public enemys on my next urban.. see how it goes.. but ANYTHING on the mountain is >181. like windham this weekend!!!

word, atomic has some on the punx and urban punx. last year on the urban trips they had another edge right in the middle too.

Another thing snowboards beat skiing to. Burton released the Dominant Slick, which is a snowboard without edges and it is suppose to be used only on urban features.

I hope that isnt the case.  I think long skis have more stability on rails and feel cooler, you are riding on something.  shorter skis would be just like boot sliding.  I have nothing against boot sliding, it is a cherished pasttime for me, but c'mon.

i ride skis with no edges at all.... straight up wood against snow . yes even in the park this year its fucked up

for urban i love it, i was coming down this 40 foot urban rail and these kids in hte landing were freaking out cause i wasnt making any noise . Stealth sliding it feels ill


but it definitely makese pretzeling harder , i have to use double the effort to get the same grip as with ediges

Yeah but it's different, we use a smaller board, but it evens it out, and it doesn't look ridiculous, skis have to be longer for the person to look anywhere near legit. Fuck I could probably 270 onto something with some little mini skis on too and I don't even ski

I double dog dare you to not do the majority of your rail slideage on that part of your skis. even most of the time with presses you'll be getting on the rail near your toe piece or not even right under foot then sliding out and it's that initial impact that's the worst.

And I could see using skis like 10 cm shorter for urban or something. I hate how people feel badass and hardcore for using long skis. I usually go for stuff around 180 or something, but hands down the most fun ski I used for park all season was a 176 dumont. fuckin tits.

longer skis = more speed & more style.

my urban skis are slightly shorter but anything past 10 cm shorter than your park skis is over doing it
