Yeah I know, there's a butload of hellbent threads already, and I've seen 'em all. But I still can't decide between the 169 or the 179. I'm around 5' 4'', 125lbs(keep in mind I am still growing), and will be using these skis for pow days at my home mountain, trips to revelstoke, and mabey the odd park run. I know they ski really short, but do they still seem short even in deep snow? And also, how much heavier are the 179s compared to the 169s? I want to be able to play around in the pow, not be dragged down the hill. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I would say get the 169's.. I think the 179's would be a lot of ski... they aren't a ton heavier, but it is noticeable for sure.. It's a ski built for powder, so that you don't totally have to size up for pow conditions..
I'm 5'6, 115 pounds. I tried out 179cm Hellbents for a few runs. Best
ski ever in the pow/crud, but they were way to big for me to
ride in the park. I couldn't jump and spin a 180 off flat ground with
them while I can do 270s with my 165cm park skis. I wish I could have tried the 169s.
See, that's the thing, I'm starting to lean towards the 169's, but at the same time I don't want to outgrow these skis really quickly. By next season I'll be at least an inch taller and I'm guessing around 5-10 pounds heavier, so I dunno. I can definately handle longer skis, I've skied 175 normal camber pow skis before, which were mounted waaay far back, and they felt fine.
i rode a 169 all year and had no trouble even center mounted staying a float. i'm 5'9 156. i'll sell you my old ones with a sth 16 binding for $550. i got's to have new shit every year.
im 5'6 145-150ish and ride the 179's centre mounted and would like longer even but im a fan of long skis.
If you are going to centre mount them get the 179s so you have more tip and tail for more floatation forwards or backwards
