hello everyone. im hoping someone on here can help me. so i just got an wd external hard drive taht connects to my comp through the usb...no external power source is needed...its awesome. i needed to reformat my hard drive and it allowed me to save everything i need like music and pics...and it has been working great except for that sometimes i get a little bubble that says my external hard drive has exceeded its power and is basically using too much power and it disconnects it. then i just reconnect it and its not problem, unless im editing videos or listening to music, and it is starting to get really annoying. does anyone know why this is happening or what i can do to stop it? thank you so much for your time and help!

hmm i have one of those little black ones too and pretty much gave up on it. This actually reminds me i have a lot of footage i need to recover from that, ha anyways.
I cant tell you why its doing that, cuz i have never had that problem. I would reccomend using it as a back up though and running your music just straight off your computer if you can.
I have had lots of problems with WD externals. My little one like yours only works about half the time and has become sooooo incredible slow now that its not funny, and my other one has toughed it out, but only the usb ports work on it.
Best advice to give you is to take it to best buy and have them do work on it, usually they know what they are doing with those sorsts of things.

i have never done this or had this problem but i if i did i would buy a usb hub that plugs into a power source and run your hard drive through that then it wont be draining your computers power

There are both powered and unpowered ones. You'll need the powered. Getting an unpowered one will just compound the problem and you'll be able to use fewer things with it

thanks everyone! i asked the wd people for help in an email and they told me that some computers limit hte amount og megahurts allwoed to usb ports adn that in order for the hard drive to run properly it needs mor and they gave me two options to help recitify the problem. one cord that plugs into the wall and one that uses both usb ports at the same time. so i think i am going to get the one that plugs into the wall. but thank you again for all your help!!!!!!!!!! you guys rock!!!!!!
