Apology letter

 

Dear Mom and Dad:

 

             I want to apologize for the shoplifting incident that took place about 2 months ago. I understand that even though I only stole a dollar worth of merchandise from A&P, taking it without paying for it was still the wrong thing to do. I need to learn that respecting other people’s property is very important; they work hard to make money so their business goes well. I will start thinking about things twice before I do them. I understand that doing this embarrassed and disappointed you, I’m sorry I had to put you through this and I guess I wasn’t thinking very well when I decided to shoplift. I will do whatever I’m asked to do. I’ll try to stop lying so much now that I’ve realized that doing so isn’t the greatest idea, it’ll just make things worse. I was being selfish and wasn’t thinking of how this whole situation would affect you. I’m quite lucky that I’m sixteen right now and that I went to the youth court, if I was eighteen or older I would have gone to the district court where things are more serious and fines are expensive, I also could have gone to jail and it would have been on my personal record. I have learned my lesson and will never shoplift again

you need to expand on like every sentence in there and you'll have two pages.

I think that is good. All making fun of you aside, one of the most famous speeches ever, the Gettysburg address, was only about 2 minutes long. Length in a letter speech or paper doesn't determine how good it is, the content does.

I think your parents will appreciate that.

yea dude tell them what you learned and stuff. tell them why you did and be honest. dont say the word "sorry" too many times or it is over kill and it becomes less meaningfully and like you are not actaully sorry but that it seems like what you are supposed to say. say something like: i dont expect you to forgive me for what i did, i know it was wrong and my actions do not deserve forgiveness but i hope someday you will be able to forgive me for disappointing you. ect ect. good luck making it up to them dude. and stop stealing shit...its not worth it.....

ummm definitely not, terrible editing advice.  Maybe "has" would work there, but i think it is just fine as is.

To the person starting this thread.  First of all, its rediculous youre coming here for help, taking responsibility for your actions would be doing what you need to do here.  But you did show effort posting what you wrote, so I will try to help you.

You need a little fluff.  2 pages should be nothing, I've written ten page bullshit papers, mainly fluff. 

I would speak of the way your parents raised you and worked so hard to make ou an honest young man..... how could you have gone wrong?  How terrible you feel for not respecting them and the way you were brought up.  All you want is for them to be proud of you, but you keep screwing up.  Talk about immaturity and growing up, realizing to respect others.  Talk about how as you mature, you keep learning lessons and how you need to start thinking of consequences before you act. Talk about how hard this lesson has been to learn, and how the aftermath of being caught has affected your life.  Was it worth it? Talk about how you would approach the situation if you had a re-do, how would you get a dollar to buy what you wanted?  It was only a minute of asking people or 20 cans or bottles (10 in MI i believe) away.  Speak of what you are going to do to make it up to the guy you stole from, and to your parents.

Or, you could make it seem like a call for attention from your parents.

Either way, this should be easy.  I could write two pages on it easily, and it didn't even involve me at all.  If done right, you will get your respect back from your parents, and maybe a tear or two out of your mother.

as you might be able to tell, i have a little experience with this type of writing...more than a little... not court-induced but because i felt it was a necessary thing to do

Looking back on the stupid shit i did when i was younger, and the shit i got caught doing, I wouldn't change much.  Mistakes shape who you will become as you get older, and are often lead to major milestones in life.
