Replying to Surviving the breakdown of civilization
Me and my friends talk about this occassionally. What would you do or need to survive if society was no more? I used to think people who prepared for stuff like this were a little nuts but now that I think about it, a small investment of a couple hundred bucks is not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. also, I already have a lot of this shit anyways
Here's what I'd make sure to have:
1. nice tent and sleeping bag
2. lots of lighters, lots of matches
3. a good cooking pot
4. a couple of bags of rice and a lot of salt
5. lots of multivitamins
6. a compass/mirror and a map of the U.S.
7. some seeds for berry bushes/corn and a hoe
8. a survival rifle with scope, and lots of .22 ammo
9. a good first aid kit and toothbrush
10. a slingshot for when I run out of ammo
11. a good bicycle
12. potassium iodide pills (only way to survive a nuclear attack, prevents radiation poisoning)
13. all my heavy winter clothing (parka, gloves, boots, thermals, etc)
what else would you take? what would you do? I'd prob head for the hills and try to avoid the initial looting, because that's your best chance of getting killed and I dont really need a plasma tv. after it dies down I'd check it out, but very carefully. I've heard in these situations some ill-prepared people get pretty hostile.
