Walking After ACL surgery

well i hurt my acl in decemeber but i just went to the doctors and got the news... anyways i am supposed to start waiting tables soon for the summer and was wondering if i get the surgery soon how long will i not be able to do that. LIke how long before i can walk enough to carry trays and stuff?

I tore my acl in early march and had surgery in mid april.  I was walking 2 weeks after and now am back to normal walking.  Its different for everyone though, my friend didnt start walking without crutches for 3 or 4 weeks.

Well i guess i shouldnt say probably.  Surgery effects everyone differently.  The more prepared you are before surgery though the better.  If all your swelling is gone and you have full range of motion/walking normal on it, then you will have a much better chance at walking 2 weeks after.....

if you can handle the pain you can realistically start hobbling right away. my doc told me to ditch the crutches as soon as possible so i was trying to walk right away and i was walking fairly normally pretty quickly

i was walkling in a few days but it backfired and ended up making the sitch a lot worse so dont overdo it

depends on the type of surg tho like where they take the graft from also... its different for everyone. my surg was exactly a year ago today and im doin pretty good it still slows me down and i baby it a lil bit but it better then hurttin it again

my friend had her acl replaced and was putting preasure on it 2 days after and can now almost walk 100% (2 weeks later)

ask your doctor realistically what is a good time period for recovery...
he would know the most about YOUR particular injury.

your not gonna want to carry heavy trays for at least the first week your walking.  I work in a restaurant and i tore my acl too.  and how quick you walk after surgery is not a set time.

i havent started walking completely without crutches with my brace and i had surgery 2 1/2 weeks ago.  although i havent really been trying cause i fucking hate the brace so id rather walk around on crutches without the brace instead of trying to walk with it.  sitting in class/work all day fucking sucks when your leg is locked completely straight.

thanks, i waited so long because the doctor who i went to right after it got hurt said that it was a sprained mcl and i was fine but he obviously mis-diagnosed... its been getting better but then i decided to go to the doctors and he said it was torn acl. Do you know the difference between the walking time on the patella and hamstring grafts. and btw i have full range of motion and very minute swelling.

sounds like my situation, i tore it, went to the doctor, they told me it was just a sprain TWICE. well after my sprain didnt go away after 2 months they finally gave me an mri.  but yea before i had surgery i could do a lot of shit even tho it was torn.  i skiied to the end of the season, like 2 1/2 months after i tore it, i played soccer lightly, and i played tennis.  there was nothing stopping my knee from hyperextending though, which i did twice when i was skiing with it torn.

im just starting to walk now, so its been like 2 1/2 weeks.  i tried walking before,  but i ended up overdoing it and it started hurting more again

it depends on if you have anything else too. i had a torn meniscus which they repaired with stitches instead of just snipping it and the stitches needed 4 weeks non weight bearing to do thier thing. i have heard of people walking out of the hospital with a cadaver acl(hamstring is 1-3 weeks) but there is a risk it wont take well and ive heard the drugs to make it so you dont reject it sucks
