Asterics, Donjoy and CTI knee braces...

What are the pros and cons for those braces?

I tore my ACL last winter and I need a knee brace now.
So im looking for the best knee brace out there for skiing and bmx riding.

i, on the other hand, would not.  when i used one for a day skiing, i hated it.  it was wayyy too big and bulky.  it did it's job really well, but i don't see how it would be a ton better than the smaller braces.  i usually use a donjoy, and it's one of my favorites.  it's light and it's small and supportive; nothing fancy, it does it's job.  i just had my acl replaced and i need a new brace, though.  i'm looking into breg.  their active brace, or whatever you call it, actually has the metal suport that sits off of your skin about 5 mm; there's padding everywhere else.  kinda hard to explain, but they look to be nice a light, and i've personally heard nothing but good about them.  I can't attest to CTI, but i've heard from a few dudes who've used most braces that they're wayyyy over-rated.  hope that helps?  Donjoy, and look into breg.

ive had the custom fit donjoy for 3 years now... no problems at all.  if any knee gives me issues, its the knee that i DIDNT have the acl replacment on.

ive been using a Don Joy all last season, and just got another one made for my other knee, just cause i love the feeling of security. if you wear them directly on your skin they get a lil itchy, but with long johns or something thin beneith it, i can have it on all day without ever noticing. its very supportive, and never moves around.

CTi2  takes a plaster mold of your leg and then forms the graphite to the mold for a perfect fit. You can limit the amount of bend (keeping the knne slightly bent or a lot)  There is also an attachment that allows you to bolt to your ski boot, with a quick release pin.

CTi was the way to go when I investigated braces several years ago. 

BTW it is also the most expensive, although I think you get what you pay for.

I currently use asterisk on both knees. I had a Don Joys before that and I think they are both good braces. the Don Joys will run you twice as much. If your insurance is going to pay for it then get a CTI but if no I would get asterisk, great brace considering the price.

i ride with the breg, it's so light weight and u dont notice it at all untill  it's needed.
it's pimp about 960 canadian dollars.

i wear Asterisks, both knees, and i love em. I don't think i could ski without them after 2 years of using them. Although they can a be a lil awkward at first, you get used to them, and some of the bulkiness can be stripped down, for example i take the big knee-cap cups off of mine. Real solid, feel great, and you can still giver

have all of you had a knee injury before?
i was wondering if it would be a good investment to prevent a knee injury because i ski lots and my din is high so it is likly to happen before long.

Tons of comparitive information here  http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/archive/index.php?t-57418.html   No brace will stop injury from a traumatic fall. It might help for a slow fall.  I blew my knee while standing still and then falling over!  Seems like over kill to wear expensive braces to try and prevent the inevitable.

I have a custom donjoy.  It's super comfortable, I don't realize I'm wearing it--and they have a guarantee where if you reblow your knee while wearing their brace, they pay for the surgery and everything.

you realize that's not the braces' fault, right?  NO brace is preventative; your knee can still twist in anything.  it's SUPPORTIVE.  what you did could have happened in any brace.

I sometimes'll wear the small nylon ones with the metal supports bars, but that's only when my bum knee is nagging me.

No, riding bikes doesn't involve a cutting or twisting motion. Bike riding is good for your knees, not bad.  Unless you are doing crazy shit and wrecking yourself.
