It was a freak accident on prom night for West Irondequoit High School students when a light fixture fell trapping some people underneath.
It happened at around 10:00 Sunday evening at the Harro East Ballroom on Chestnut Street Downtown.
This all happened during the West Irondequoit Junior Prom. We spoke to several teenagers that were inside. They stated that a strobe light fixture came crashing down on the dance floor trapping a few students underneath.
One student told us that everybody was dancing and the next thing they knew the light fixture came crashing down.
One student says there were people unconscious and bleeding.
According to the Rochester Fire Department 14 people were injured, 12 people were taken to local hospitals. Two of those taken to the hospital had injuries described as moderately serious, while the other 10 were described as minor injuries.
Rochester Police Department investigators told district officials early Monday that they had completed their investigation, determining the incident to be accidental. They said there will be no criminal charges.
