Anyone care to explain to me why they sing god bless america instead of the anthem at a hockey game

so im watching the hockey game of philly and the habs . and instead of signing the american national anthem they sang something that said god bless america over and over. anyone care to elaborate as to why that is , not signing the national anthem is pretty bold in my book
