Why do people hate on full face helmets??

im sure some people like em, but they are super heavy and i get chlosterphobic (sp?) to the max when i wear em. and they get really hot inside.

But why do people on this site dislike full face helmets? Because most kids on this site ski mostly park, and in park it really isn't going to help enough to outweigh the cons. They are heavy, block vision, hot....the list can go on and on.

One reason I don't like them is I don't like the way they look.  They are really only good for skiing exposure, where if you fall you could hit rocks or if you're sledding.  When you're skiing resort, the snow is generally hard, so if you fall with a full face, and the chin guard hits the snow, it can catch and can torque your neck in unholy ways.  Unless you're skiing things like ian mcintosh or eric hjorliefson ski, in the same types of conditions, it can be both stupid looking and unsafe.  I don't know about you, but I'd rather chip some teeth or get a black eye then snap my neck.

Full faces are worn when your going BIG or maybe heli-skiing. I'm talking about a huge cliff with rocks exposed everywhere or hucking a HUGE cliff and your scared of hitting your face. The park just isn't the place for a full face, people will just laugh at you. Full faces are mean't for motorized sports and mountain biking. When you see someone wearing a full face, you assume they're a gaper or a poser. Because come on what kind of real BC skier wears a full face?

they're so nice for big mountain, the whole chin to knee thing is gone. for park they're ghey and useless but i've fucked up my jaw from knee smashes and it's nice to have the extra protecton, they make so much sense

^^i would say seth morrison has a good combination of style and ease when he hucks frontflips of 80 footers like it's no problem, he wears a fullface. also BC steeze is skiing sick lines with style and ease not necessarily doing park steeze in the BC but i'd say hjorleifson has pretty good "BC steeze" and he wears fullface. but whoever wears a fullface in the park can go shoot themself

I have no problem with people who need it, namely Seth and Hjorleifson. Ian McIntosh, and all those guys who rip crazy lines. But I hate the odd kid who wears a fullface while skiing groomers or park. There's simply no need for it.

I would appreciate one in uber back country but otherwise no. CR has a cool Monster one in 7 sunny days.
Racers use them too .. .I know a guy who had one in a SX race and crashed, something went wrong with it and it went through his cheek...it was a removeable full face bit that snapped...loads of blood.

to anyone saying there heavy, have any of u picked up a troy lee d2 (what seth uses as a full face) well there lighter than more normal helmets. There definitly lighter than my smith holt. And incredibly safe and unbulky for a full face. I think there only necessary when charging bc lines tho, not really any other time

not all fullfaces protect against knee-face.  just get a mouthguard...what/where exactly are you skiing that you need a fullface?

Thats just the thing, full faces can be more dangerous in certain situations.  When you see gapers who are learning wearing them, it's just more weight that can hurt them more.  It's completely unnecessary and they can be protected just as well by a nomal helmet.  For dudes like seth, hoji or ian, they wear them because it gives them the confidence to charge the lines that they do, and it is safer for them to ski in them.

Seth's face would probably look haggard right now if he didn't have a full face I'm betting.  Or all his teeth would be fake.  I do understand your point on the ignorance of ns and people just wanting to protect themselves, but full faces are made for people who are skiing hard, and rightfully so.  They are heavy duty, and not made for small knocks.  The helmet themselves can certainly handle it, but the neck of the person wearing may not if the chin guard digs into some hardpack.
