Alrite guys, gonna be buying new skis in a few months. I want something park specific that is flexy enough to butter and all that jazz but stable for jumps, not to bothered about getting an all round ski just something that is light. Been considering Volkl Walls, Ar6's, T-Halls, Extremes, Kung Fujas and some salomon ones like the spk and dumont amoung others. For the last few seasons i have been on some 05/06 PEs which I love riding about on but don't enjoy them in the park. I'm 5ft 6 140lbs, wondering what length is should get cos i'm gonna get them center mounted, do I get the skis slightly longer? What should I get?
i had a pair of 181 (i think) AR6's. i liked them, but they were pretty stiff. im a bigish guy (190, 6'2) and they were still hard to do butters on. there not impossible, but they were hard, and i had a hard time really laying em out on my tips. they didnt really have a lot of pop either. eventually they broke (note to you, do NOT buy maker bindings. i had mine rip out at least 4 times and the store toldme they became unsafe to mount ahymore unless i wanted them way back or way up from center...)
those broke half way through this year, so i got a pair of dumonts (and new bindings). they are 181. all i can say is they have tons of pop, and you can butter them so well. they are soft, but they are stiff enough to get good pop on. they are so fun to ride. i got em center mounted too, and sort of wish they were a little longer, but they dont make em longer so im out of luck. i like long skis though.
i reccomend the Dumonts, but have only ridden old scratch's, PE's, AR6's, and this years Dumonts, so this is obviously a biased comment.
make sure at the shop, if you want them mounted in the actual center of the ski, as for true center, not just "center" because "center" is the center of where the company reccomends to mount them (almost never the same as "true center," where they measure and divide by 2, then mount there)
6 foot 2 - just bought JO pros at 178. Really really really light and nice and narrow underfoot at 77mm. So super quick edge to edge and great for popping, grinding, make freestyle way easier. Spinning is a joy in them!!
By the way marker bindings are fine, it was more likely your AR6's rotting having a bad mount the first time or just a bad batch.
And you will struggle to avoid marker bindings, or the technology at least as 90% is all the same company now anyway.
since you want to be able to butter i would go with the T-HALL's but if you want better all mountain skis that will be harder to butter with i would go with the AR6
