Yea I was cruising on Ebay looking for them and I decided to look on the web for any better deals and was surpised to see REI beating even the best on Ebay. The best price I could see on ebay was approximately $300/shipped, varying on bids and buy it nows...
I figured I'd give NS community a heads up before they sell out again...I picked myself up a pair!
Just got brand new Anthems and Pipe Cleaners today in a matter of 10 minutes! Too good of deals to pass up. Ive already got my bindings lined up, picked up two brand new FKS120's and a Head Mojo 15..now my only problem is trying to figure out which binding to which ski...LOL
Maybe I mispoke, but I was never racing. I have been skiing for about 10 years but "technical" skiing, or whatever you guys call normal alpine skiing versus the freestyle/all mountain you guys are. I have been trying to learn more through a system called PMTS (Primary Movement Teaching System) which is race inspired skiing techniques and primarly on-piste carving technique.
I am a huge gear junky. Whatever Im into I want to have the best equipment plus know why and how it works. My current skis are the Head SuperShapes with FF14 bindings which come as a package and as good as I need. So I never dwelled into the mechanics of the bindings.
However, now Im going into a new field or area, and from reading on these forums appear to be the second biggest issue/concern behind skis themselves. From what Ive read there are a slight differences, for example in racing a vertical toe release doesnt seem to be as important as in freeskiing. Also, Im not certain but it seems to me that race bindings dont necessarily go through the same stresses as freestyle bindings..so maybe there are other factors I needed to be worried about
BTW,
I got the bindings from Ken's Bike and Skis...I saw a link on the forums here from last fall saying they were on sale for a good price...I went there, no more sale, your paying full retail price..but I tried every other source I could find on the internet and they were the only ones who had them. I think about $240 shipped....I bought 2 pairs cuz I figured I better get them while I can based on the revieews Ive read here....I also bought the Mojo 15's before that because I didnt have any luck buying the FKS120 or the PX12? because they sounded the second best.
How often do you have a "backwards and twisting falls" in racing or normal downhill skiing? Also, I made this assumption based on the fact that the higher end racing models FKS155/180 and PX14/18 all dont have the vertical toe release, hence being less desirable to freeskiers...so I was assuming that the vertical toe release was more important to freekiers because of what you mentioned above. However normal skiing doesnt typically have backwards and twisting falls..that implies your doing a trick?
BTW, I was checking REI's website they only have 161cm anthems left at this price...they are going quick!
sorry for post whoring but i just realized that i said that wrong, hence the confusion. just forget i said this ^ the point i was trying to make is, for me, an upward toe release is very important in freestyle and not as important in racing. so you were correct when you said that somewhere along the line...
Hey, Im just glad for the disucssion..thats how we all learn. I have a ton to learn about freeskiing and I'll take any information I can get...however I hope people dont find me "argumentative" its just my personality to question everything and find out exactly how and why things work the way they do...probably a good thing im an engineer...lol
