 so im 18 and in college... this has been on my mind A LOT lately... k so i ski a ton and i know that drinking and smoking comes with the territory but i come from a father that is an alcoholic and have seen the gnarly stuff it does to you i have seen him so fucking shit faced that he was gunna beat my ass and he didnt even know who i was and the next day he doesnt remember a thing. now dont get me wrong some drinks are hella good but alcoholism is genetic and im scared that if i start i will turn out like my dad... as for smokin im sure is ballin but to me it just not worth it i dont ever want to try it i have no reason to. i got lots of friends that do and always ask me to smoke a bowl with them and i just tell them no and they respect me for it...
i kno im going out on a limb but i was wondering if there are any fellow NSers that are in the same boat as im in?
im only writing this because i see so many threads about being high and wasted and shit so thought i would post on my views... you can hate on me all you want i dont currr...

duude i have a great respect for you.. im fifteen and have started doing some dumb shit but have stopped.. thats sick that you are that responsible... skiing keeps me down the right path (im serios) this winter i would ski like every weekend day and every friday and sat night my friends would get wasted and be hung over the next day and i wouldnt drink at all and that helps my performance of skiing sooo much.  skiing helps me make good choices ands thats just another reason that it is my absolute favorite thing in the world and i love it so much

Coming from a person who does both, I really respect that choice man. Just as people shouldn't pass judgements on people who smoke and/or drink, people should respect the opinions of those who choose not too like you.
Sounds like that's pretty rough with your dad, good luck with that man. I say do what you want to do and don't listen to others, cause only you know what's good for you.
And props to you for posting this on NS, where alot of kids want to be/ are stoners etc.

without reading this whole thread, i know from your first post that you have a good head on your shoulders. i never drank at all until college and i have only smoked one cigar, nothin else. as far as drinking in college, there are different levels you can do it at. a lot depends on who you drink with. my groups of friends in college are all pretty normal people and don't get out of control with drinking.

it's fun once in a while, but since you already turn it down, i wouldn't even bother drinking at all until you are 21. then maybe give a shot sometime. if your friends aren't retards, then you'll get respect from everyone for being clean and sober.

way to go.

that's legit, but you should know that addiction is very largely mental and is all about will power so if you ever really wanted to try drinking I wouldn't hold back, just control yourself and don't go crazy. as for smoking, I would never give someone shit for not wanting to smoke but I think you might as well try it once just because I feel like the more things you experience the more well rounded of a person it makes you. plus it's not very addicting at all (at first), most of the kids I know who don't smoke have tried it out. Also, if you're view on weed is based at all from those gay ass commercials about weed and how it ruins your life then you really should to try it because those commercials are bogus. but either way I know a fair amount of kids at college who don't drink or don't smoke and it's not a big deal. If anything kids will be stoked on you to drive to parties, just offer to drive their cars though so you don't have to pay for gas.

hahaha good call on the driving their cars thing ^^^ its really funny where i live to... so i live in SLC and all the friends i have made are LDS and they are all like me... choose not to drink or smoke but all of my friends that are LDS have also tried it and i just choose not to..... its really funny because whenever anyone meets me for the first time and doesnt kno me all to well they always think that im LDS because i choose to live a clean substance free lifestyle... whaterr. i don care haha but dont start flamin on LDS people thats another thread... haha ...

Don't ever get into anything from pressure, especially drinking or weed. Then it loses its fun because you feel obligated to do it. The day you feel like you wanna try it, then go ahead. You are very young you have plenty of years left, don't try this stuff too young because then you won't be able to live out your childhood which is realllly important IMO. By the way, there are owners of Fortune 500 companies (the top 500 companies in the nation) who smoke marijuana (not all the time, obviously, but still). It's not terrible for you, I don't think it should be considered a "harmful" drug because it really isn't, unless you are in a sports season because the smoke in your lungs decreases your lung capacity for air.

and hell yes i would drive your drunk ass home... there is NOTHING more that i hate then drunk driving!

people get killed from that shit everyday! i am personal friends with a guy that was driving drunk hit a lady and hurt her pretty bad... her got 2 years in jail for it and hes the nicest guy alive you would never think that ov him.

ok so you don't drink or smoke pot...what's the point of this thread?

you make it sound like people think it's a problem that you don't drink or smoke. i respect the fact that you choose not to and would never try to talk you into doing it. the only time i would ever pressure someone into drinking or smoking would be someone that gives other people shit for doing it.

alcoholism runs in your family. shit that sucks and i can relate to that but if you base your life on fear that it will happen to you, you're going to miss out on a lot. it really isn't that hard to avoid succumbing to the disease. you basically have to be conscious of all your decisions involving alcohol and i think today most young people are. past generations had more of a tendency to use alcohol to deal with stress and anxiety while today we choose methods other than substances to cope with issues.



take this how you will. i'm just sick of people making threads about how they choose not to drink or smoke and how much better they are than other people.

do i drink? yes i do every now and then. i used to drink a lot more back in university
do i smoke? not much since i quit cigarettes 4 months ago

This is the dumbest post in this entire thread. No one listen to this idiot. Driving drunk is fun, but everything is fun when you are drunk, that is not a good justification. You put others at increased risk in an already risky endeavor. Thousands of people die in car wrecks every year. If I see someone swerving or driving like a drunk I call it in. Driving is dangerous kids, we don't need impaired assholes out there making it worse.

word I'm in the same boat son. both of my parents are alcoholics and it scares the shit out of me. I occasionallly have  beer or two but im staying away from anyhardcore shit. and smoking just isnt for me. reguardless of how good it may make you feel, its a drug. it fucks you up. im glad someone had the balls to bring this up on NS props man.

no i totaly agree, this is like a thread you would see in an above the influence website. Like seriously i dont want to hear you gloat about being sober, power to you but seriously, I honestly dont think you realize how many people actualy DO do drugs every day right under you nose without you knowing, our entire society runs on drugs, yeah its fucked up when people die from trying to get high or what ever but in the long run its really helping us out, we are really over populated

i do both...heavily...but I also have a grand father and a great grand mother who were alcys. I just keep shit under watch, I have never felt the need to drink alot, its just fun, i stopped drinking so much though, once every 2 weeks, but i mean, i can kill a fifth and still function fine, so im really just trying to cut down and lower my tolerence. smoking wise, shits fun as hell, healthier than drinking, actually stimulates brain activity, and when youre baked you still can control yourself vs. being plastered. All in all, i will probably stop drinking so much when im a dad, i think i will probably smoke more than i drink by then, you would be suprised how many old people smoke

i dont drink or smoke cause there are soooo many fags i see who do. one time i was driving some kid at my school to a gas station to meet his dad cause his car broke down, and it was like a 2 minute drive, we are like halfway there and he asks if he can smoke, so i say why dont you just wait till we get there? we are like 30 seconds away, so he says "fuck it man just drop me off here ill just walk" he get out sits down and start smoking and i drive away. that is such a horrible shitty life, i dont know how anyone would want that.
and the people who think they are such tough badass shit cause they drink just like any other kid. the type that call people pussies for not drinking cause for some reason they think it takes balls? and they make fun of people for drinking good tasting drinks, like a pina colada cause its a pussys/girl drink, those guys are the definition of tools.
and last i fucking hate parties, they are full of so many fags and tools trying as hard as they possibly can to look so fucking cool, and they are boring as shit, you sit around and drink and do nothing or if your feeling crazy and daring you play beer pong, sweet. that shit gets so damn old and boring. and i hate how its everyone definition of doing something fun.
me and my friends atleast go out and fuck with people, go exploring, make bombs, messing around in ghillie suits, etc... just getting out and doing something rather than going to another party and doing the same exact thing every fucking night.
and the people you see at parties that are the "cool" people end up being total pieces of shit in normal life. like one of my old friends is always the cool guy at parties that everyone is hanging out with. but he has gotten in so much trouble with the police for drugs and alcohol, a dui, etc.. and he is super depressed when you see him around the neighborhood.

so my reason/motivation for not drinking or smoking is seeing people turn into complete pieces of worthless shit because of it. plus i feel so much happier all the time, and it feels good when you tell people you dont drink or smoke and they say "man i wish i could be like you."
i drank and went to parties for like one semester and tried weed a couple times, and now that i never do, i am happy all the time and i have absolutely no desire to drink again, there is absolutly no point.

Yeah man... very respectable decision. I have a close bud who doesn't drink. He is of native american descent and both of his parents were alcoholics. So I definately understand. However, smoking herb is not addictive, but don't feel pressured to smoke. Do it on your own time, and relax. You won't regret it. Keep on the good fight.

yeah smoking isnt very bad, it really does nothing to your health and it actually makes you feel good unlike alcohol which makes you feel like crap. the only bad thing is when you smoke a shit ton and sit at home smoking nonstop, ive lost a couple friends because now they do absolutely nothing but smoke weed. if you just do it every once and awhile then its ok.
and cigarettes are just gay, they are horrible for health and it just makes you look like a tool.

all my friends smoke. ive never tried. even though im not afraid to do it, im scared of what would happen. im afraid if i try it and like it i wont be able to stop. my moms dad died when she was 21 due to the fact that he was smoking too many nicotine sticks. she has now developed a hatred torward all smokers no matter the kind. hey wait! i just remembered my moms mom drunk herself to death when my mammila was 17.

just try it for yourself. don't overdrink your first time, just kinda get the hang of it, puking is no fun. i never do reeeaallly dumb shit when I drink, and I can control myself pretty well. actually the only time i ever really did something dumb was when this girl i was friends with was over and i kinda just whipped out my schlong randomly and started dancing around, but that was after playing a game of bacardi pong--bad idea never play that game. that resulted in my only time puking in my 4 year drinking career.


Its a pastime that has been done forever, it is pretty fun to me.
