So in 1992, researchers in Munich were running tests to see what kind of drugs Egyptians had been using around the time of the height of the ancient empire. Belladonna and mandrake were common anesthetics and hallucinogens at the time. However, the standard drug tests showed something unbeliveable. The mummies tested positive for both tobacco and cocaine.
Tobacco doesnt grow in the old world naturally. We have no evidence that such a variety of plant ever existed outside of the Americas. Same with cacao. It just doesnt grow naturally on other continents.
Naturally, the researchers ran the tests again, took deep uncontaminated tissues and even ran hair sample tests, which are contaminant-proof. Same result. Even more stunning is that Chinese mummies show trace amounts of these substances too when they were tested.
I dont know what to conclude from this. Its possible to cross the Atlantic in a reed boat (Thor Heyerdahl, look the dude up). 40 years ago the thought of Vikings in America was unthinkable... could it be possible that Egypt traded with the ancient pre-Mayan civilizations in South America?
