Ski bumming info

hey i was wondering if any one had info on the best way to move out to CO to live and get the most days of riding in. i was hoping i could work/ live at copper. but i only wanted to work part time, like 3 days or so, and i dont think i could qualify for housing. or should i try to get a job at a shop, get an apartment , and a season pass(seems way to expensive considering i dont wanna work to much). im open for any suggestions/ past experiences/ info

well only working 3 days a week wont help out much. just get a shitload of roommates and you'll be straight

yea i hear ya, im not commited to three days, i just didnt want a 5 day day a week job, unfortunately i dont know anyone out there  so finding  roomates  will be a bit hard. i have some friends who are possibly transfering to UC Boulder, but im afriad that a place in boulder is to far to be working at a mountain.


Ideally i want to work friday , saturday, sunday,(and thursday if i have to), and take the rest to ski. I heard some  resorts consider a full time job 4 days a week at 10 hrs a day, which would be fine but im not sure if thats every resort or even  accurate info to begin with

maybe ill  move this post  so kids from other states can offer advice also

Work 2 or 3 full time jobs this summer so you have enough money for rent, get a parttime job at a restuarant (if you can...not sure if many restraunts hire part time.) If you can't get part time then wash dishes like 6 pm till 2 am 5 days a week, then you could ski everyday too, just would have to sleep in. And just look online and shit for roomates...

Get a shitload of roommates, a shit load of ramen and mac and cheese, and be a waiter (nights) and make bank on tips.  Work weekends because the lines are huge too.

Theres lots of jobs that are mostly night shifts.  Most restaurant jobs consider "full time" to be maybe 30 hours a week, mostly 6 hour shifts (think 4-10 pm)  Thios works great for skiing as much as possible.  Getting an APT is the hard part... craigslist and roomates...  also try www.summitdaily.com

find roomates before you move out there, and try to move in to an apartment/condo/house/whatever that they have already been living in, like replace an old roomate that left. Then you don't have to worry about not knowing if your new roomates will pay up their share of rent because they have already been living togeather.

Also, when do you plan on moving out here? If you aren't coming out for summer (not a bad idea because living there is expensive so you can't make as much money) and can't find roomates post on NS, Craigslist, look on Transworld Snowboarding Forums, check out Summit Dailey, but that is all I can think of.

i was planing on moving out there like very late summer maybe early fall, it all depends on how much coin i can save and how fast. I have family in Brighton CO to stay with untill i can find roomates tho, so that will hopefully make it easier

I got a Monday through Friday job, so I was able to only ski 67days so far.  So definitely don't do that, cause your going to be depress on the days when your at work and your buddy's are texting you telling you how deep the powder is.

I got a friend out here who does night aduit for hotels, it's a 11pm to 7am shift. So he skis every single day. Plus a lot of these types of jobs, you have the chance to sleep during certain parts of night, when the demand for you to work is at a minimum.  Plus it's a job that pays well so you don't have to get stuck living with 6 other dudes, but then again, if you don't live with 6 other dudes your not a ski bum.

ha,ha. the only reason i thought to work at copper is because they say they give you a pass for them, winter park, steamboat, aspen, i think teluride. then i would buy that breck pass which gives me vail,  beaver creek,and keystone. i have a half way decent  suv and i should be able to save a ton of money this summer, i mean i may not hit all of those resorts but just to have almost everything in sumit county seems worth it.

I worked for Telluride this last winter.  They do hook you up with a free season pass and some other employee goodies.  The only problem is that it's in bum fuck nowhere.  The upside to that is that you'll only see lift lines about a week out of the year.  The downside is that you have to drive a 100 miles just to get to a fucking Walmart.
