So all you kiddies who aren't old enough to vote seem to have an awful lot to say about the presidential candidates. Upon smoking some bowls and drinking some brews with good company our conversation drifted towards the upcoming election. Something we all agreed on was that one of the biggest issues which needs discussed among the candidates is one that is so far from the top of the list that you never seem to hear about it.
The issue lies in the Supreme Court. Two of the current judges are nearing retirement, and are essentially waiting until the new president is brought in to resign. This is very important. The supreme court upholds or brings down our laws. Any decisions they make are generally binding and semi-permanent, at least in the light of anything being decided on won't be revisited for many years to come. They decide what is law and what is not, and for all of the young people in this country, this should be your biggest concern.
Do you really want McCain coming in and choosing the next to Judges who will aid in deciding how you're allowed to live your life for the NEXT 40 YEARS?!?!
This is the issue I would like to hear the candidates debate about, because really more than anything else, how the supreme court is set up after this next election is going to steer American history in one direction or another.
Discuss.
