Im trying to decide on a which bindings I want for next years setup, which will probably be thrown on some donner partys. I'm trying to find something rather burly, that will only come off when I absolutely need it to. Ive been researching the jesters and they sounds like a great fit for a wide ski but im still a little warry of their quality as they are marker. My other options are the 916s which i know are a safe but heavier than the jesters. My other to thoughts are towards look or 4frnt deadbolts and was wondering if anyone had opinions are how these are in terms of quality, performance, weight, etc as i know jack shit about them. I'm 6'3 and 175# but am planning to gain some weight over the summer, shit im gonna be lifting big fucking rocks 40 hours a week so i better gain some. I ski pretty hard at all the mountains in summit county, every now and then will venture out to cb. Thanks for any advice
I'm 5'9 150 lbs.
I was on Line Bacons with Jesters this year for pow, and sometimes on groomers and regular crud, then a bit of park (nothing over 30 foot jumps) and they worked fine. I didn't get the chance to charge any really steep faces or drop cliffs over 10 feet so I can't vouch for any really gnarly stuff. I really like the Jesters though. I plan on getting Donner pary's next year and throwing some Jesters on them as well. hope that helps.
Im the same stats as you and i rocked jesters on my arvs this year and loved em. A lightweight binding with a great din range. Plus the wider platform is made for wide skis. Id highly recommend them.
I have said it before and will say it again, Jesters are a 12 din binding with a 16din spring, They do not have the structural support that real high din bindings do like the fks, p15's, p18's, and s916's. If you ski hard enough that you need your din in the double digits, chances are that the Jesters will explode on you.
If your not planing on skiing much pipe, px-15's are supper solid bindings that will hold you in, 916's are even burlier but are also heavier. So it really depends how big you are, if you are going to be 180+ lbs and charging I would get the 916s or px 15's. I have done some serious charging on my px15's and have not had any problems.
go for the salomon STH16's. burly binding, 9-16 din range. reinforced heelplate and everything. i used them this year. loved them. im not one who notices weight though. so cant say anything about that
word, mojo 15s are bomber, cheaper than other high-din bindings, lighter than other high-din bindings, pivot heel... yeah, 4frnt next year are tyrolia so they'll be the same.
i rode some jesters for a couple days on some demo skis at baker a few weeks ago. they are alright, but i had some serious issues with them. for one, they do not have that much forward elasticity, and i popped out forward a buncha times. Din was set at 11. the main issue i had tho, was the real high forward pressure. trying to click in in deep snow on steeps was SUCH a pain in the ass. any amount of snow on the soles of your boot keeps the boot from locking in, and you really have to stomp them in, which is not always possible in soft snow.
i still really prefer the turntable bindings. they ski just as good if not better, are more durable, and have way better elasticity. plus, with the low forward pressure, they are much easier to pop on.
i'm assuming you mean don't get tyrolia mojo 11s (or whatever they call them)? they are indeed shit bindings but mojo 15s are 'consumer' bindings and they are bomber as fuck...
I've broken 2 pairs of mojo 15s. And my friend just broke his FF17s which are the same binding. Why do you think tyrolia makes an FF17 and an FF18? its not because of the massive DIN differences. Tyrolia race bindings = Mojo 20s FF20s FF18s etc = not shit. Tyrolia Consumer bindings = Mojo 15, etc = TOTAL SHIT
I did not say more durable, I only said more burlier, I guess I did not make myself clear, they are same construction, just the din is a higher range making them that much gnarlier.
