Tuning/De-Tuning

Alright so last year i bought my first pair of twins, when i bough them i got them waxed and i didnt have them do anything to the edges, i was told to dull them as much as possible so they dont catch on rails, so i got home and took a rock to em.

So next year i bought some Dumonts, and i was thinking about mounting and tuning etc, im center mounting since im going to use these for 100% parl. and i remember last year the guy at shop said he can sharpen just the tips tail and nose so that i can carve and the mid still wont catch on rails, i was wondering if anyone has any experience with thisa and wants to tell me there opinions... thanks

A good day of riding rails with some tuned skis will probably de-tune your edges pretty fast. I did de-tune a pair of my skis last year with a file just underfoot cuz i found them almost too sharp..

yeah, it happend to me with my new skis. i would dull the edges under foot a little.

it doesnt work exactly like that
its not like if u hope on a rail with sharp edges the theres 100% chance that ur going to catch an edge

ive never de-tuned my edges with a rock and i hit rails...ive never honestley caught a rail and ive been doin the same thing for 5 years, somtimes when the edges are sharp they might grab a bit but ive never gotten fully fucked

but if this is just a park ski i would deff reccomend keepin the tips and tails sharp so u can still have control on those in runs and jumps

get a gummy stone from ur ski shop and then just run it up the edges alot

I get my skis full-tuned about 2 times a year, and I tell them not to sharpen the edges underfoot, always works for me, and really in the park you don't need to de-tune, it is urban stuff that catches alot.

its harder than you think to catch an edge in the park, id say not detune them because after few hours of rails theyll be nice and dull

if it feels catchy de tune if no then dont. i personally go over the edges underfoot with a gummy stone afew times

Just file the shit out of the area under foot to completely round the edge. I skied me newest skis on groomers only for the first day with sharp edges then completely rounded underfoot before the next day and detuned slightly the rest of the ski. I didn't notice a lot of difference, even on early morning spring hardpack. I like my edges very dull underfoot so I can be lazy when I slide.

i wouldnt detune at all, i dont know if its me but i never catch edges on rails, and after one rail theyll detune themselves
