try being stuck on top  of some Ak line over tons of exposure hangin on with one edge locked in........this is a situation where those two extra contact points can really help you from dieing.  Otherwise I don't mind the no pole perspective

well that settles it everybody, pull out your old narrow straight skis and lets ski the pow because using fat skis is too easy in the pow and therefore UNCOOL..oh and don't ski the hellbents because people that use them say that its like cheating in the pow...because thats UNCOOL..

in fact lets get rid of every helpful innovation in skiing because it makes it easier to ski.. and as we very well know, anything that makes skiing easier is UNCOOL..

so lets be cool and ski the pow with our 220 cm straight skis, so that we can have a great time being gapers

all joking aside, No_Steeze, I dont care what kind of skis you use in the powder...
i just dont see how making it easier to ski in the powder is a bad thing..

skiing park on straight non twin tip skis can also be done, but using twin tip park skis sure does make it easier and more FUN..

so could it be that skiing the pow on fat skis is not only easier but more FUN???

and could it be that most people want to do something that is easier and more fun? Yep...

use poles if you want don't use poles if you don't want to. Yeah you can ski anything without poles that you can ski with but poles may help if you are havin to do jump stops in tight shit but you can do anything without poles maybe not as easily though

i'm all for skiing fat skis in the powder, i ski a prophet 100 everyday and i used to have 130's for serious powder, so for all of you who think i ski on 220 straight skis, i don't. i was just clarifying that it's retarded and completely jong ish to give me shit for skiing volkl dogens in the powder 2 years ago because it doesn't matter how fat your skis are. for making nice turns in a little powder, you don't need fat skis, but for charging big mountain lines and hucking big airs, it's very nice to have that extra flotation because it's one less thing to worry about
but, one thing i will say, is that you need poles for both of those types of skiing
anyone else notice that by far the best skier in hunting yeti was hjorleifson? and what!?!?!? he used poles!?!?!!?!? omg how?

I just got back from skiing knee deep pow, accesed via snowmobile, and I was no-poling it (mostly due to the fact that my right hand is broken.)  It was amazing, hand drag pow turns are really fun.  Although I kinda whish I could've used poles, since I haven't used em for quite a while.

So basically, you definately don't need poles in the BC, although they do help, and I encourage everyone to try no poles in pow for at least one run.

I've never said you can't have no poles in the backcountry but I never said I wouldn't make fun of you for it. I actually hope everyone skis no poles in the backcountry. I Long for the day when I can see skiers trying to climb up slopes over 25 degrees with skins on and no poles waddling like penguins.
