As much as I love skiing, motox is way more dangerous. the bike can land on you and shit and you can get run over...not cool. I like how skiing is less dangerous than motox. I mean if you are charging fat BC lines and giant cliffs, then yeah it could be just as dangerous but it depends what you are doing. I dont think the park is as dangerous unless the jumps are wayyyyy shitty and easy to overshoot.
moto-x
that shit is gnarly
we are comparing the most extreme acts done on skis compared to the most extreme in moto
for skiing i think the most dangerous shit is no-fall-zones while ski mountaineering where a fall absolutely means death
i dont know what could compare to that in motocross
i agree that the average skiing is not as dangerous compared to the average moto riding but what sport does the most dangerous shit at the highest level
if i think about it every one i know who is involved in mx or any motor sports eather knows some one who has been serously injured, or they them selves have been serously injured..
out of the skier.. i cant really think of as many who suffered as suver injueis or even suver ones to begin with
you dont hear about ski deaths as much because the skiers who ski at the level where its more dangerous than anything in mx know what there doing and dont fuck up. they arnt as dumb as most bikers and this gives the impression its lss dangerous.
skiing allows more control and therefore one can get into a realm in which you might really fuck yourself up, like if a sluff took you off a cliff while skiing a line like the devils caslte coulior which has a manditory rappel on all but the most exeptional winters.
that brings us into a whole other aspect where conditions begin to play a part in the danger level. there are like 6 different ways to climb and ski the ford-stettner(grade II wi2-3,mod snow) on the grand teton depending on the snow levels. then you throw avalanches into it and i dont see how mx even comes into the same realm.
this response and cedric's are right on. im not saying more skiiers fuck themselves up more, im just saying we put ourselves into that type of situation more often and are more well versed with dealing with it.
that and mx only goes into the third dimention, vertical drop, a little bit if at all. if an mxer goes 80 feet he will probably be a max of 30 feet off the ground whereas simon has recently gone 35 feet STRAIGHT UP in the air. mxers dont go straight up like ever.
