well obviously you are lacking compared to the pros. they are pros. that's like me saying that i suck compared to tanner hall, which i do.

You know what the only difference between a pro and a serious amateur is...a buisness license. Those are great images. Good use of lighting, great composition. I've been shooting for over 10 years and I have a buisness license cause that is what I do and I can tell you that if you've got an eye for it titles don't mean shit

I hate to be the hippie college student, but one thing to think about that will always make your pictures better is the thought put into the underlying meaning. Anyone can grab a camera and take some cool shots, what makes photos great is their purpose. Ideally in a photo all the elements should contribute to the purpose of the photo, whatever that may be. By purpose, I mean theme or emotion you want to convey. The objects in the photo should say something about that. It can be an idea or concept that only you understand, or something that everyone can relate to.

This carries over to film and most other art forms as well.

No, don't worry i totally know where your coming from... photography is supposed to be another vent of expression and how we perceive everyday life...and how we choose to interpreted those emotions impacts the way we see the shot and eventually the photo/ print and so it kind of hard for people to have the same emotions if they do not understand the underlaying motives and emotions,

What cam are you shooting with? I like your ski photo a lot, nice work man.

I like the expression of the grey-haired man. Any reason you didn't shoot that in portrait and choose landscape? You cut off of the head and the composition turned out pretty bothersome, when it could have been much better. I know you don't have to follow all of those rules, but perspective ruined that photo.

The shot of the car has no place in a portfolio. You suck for putting that one in. JK

All the shots are pretty sweet with some nitpicking on a few.

I'm not feeling the selective color on the cat. Maybe it has an emerald eye, but it seems unnatural.

I agree with maximumsushi about the portrait to an extent. The composition is static. If your going to do deadpan he should be looking straight into the camera. I'd like the tight horizontal(landscape) framing if there was more negative space on the left and less on the right. It would give the viewer an opportunity to move around the frame. The light is also quite nice and I like how he is positioned in front of the white wall.

The ski pic is ok.

The woods/trail pic has a nice warm yet eerie feel to it.

I'm assuming the color on the sunset portrait is muted because that's the feeling trying to be conveyed. 

The new ones you added I'm not crazy about. The ski shot isn't really improved by being B+W and the shoes are kind of awkward.


As for pros being "pros" only because they have their business license is true technically if 10% or more of your income comes from that craft. 

The theory behind hiring a pro is that they know how to get things done and when problems arise can easily maneuver around them. There are too many soccer moms with a dslr kit calling themselves a photographer.

You certainly have an eye for composition and probably have some technical skills, but we wouldn't be able to judge whether your technically ready to emerge without seeing all the pics from an entire shoot. 

The best thing you can do is shoot a wide variety of subject matter, make mistakes, learn how to correct them, and finally learn how not to make them in the first place. Then you can go make some new business cards that say "I'm a pro".

There are all good, but for the sake of this being NS you should try to put more skiing involved pics, lol
Pro's don't have much on you, just my unprofessional opinion.
All I ask is that you consider yourself good!

They're kinda small, but besides that they're all very nicely taken.. Small critique, if you're going to take a photo of a car, don't make it a blue Nissan X-Trail. Other then that, keep it up!

I dont think i like you're close-up dog/cat pictures that much, as I don't think they are as "orginal" as your other nature photos, which are really awesome! You really got some good bird and nature photos, the photo of the bird from behind is really nice with the details and colors, keep it going!
