Alcohol and elevation

What are your observations considering alochol and elevation? Studys show that around 9,000 feet alcohol will get you twice as drunk. This isnt true for me tho - 3 beers at sea level will fuck me up more than 6 or 7 beers at 8,000 feet. I belive it has something to do with the fact that my body has developed at 8,000 feet and at sea level there is way to much oxygen in the air for me. Its some wierd shit tho - anyone else effected like this?

clausen you're pretty correct in your thinking i believe. oxygen does actually get you high or euphoric in greater amounts. if you're getting more oxygen to your body than normal plus drinking alcohol it'll play with your system a little.

ya - thats why they have those oxygen bars. i redeemed myself last night - drank more than enough to cover the 2 days i was down at the beach. im feeling it today though. i think i have an alcohol problem. at elevation beer doesnt get me drunk - it just gives me more energy to drink more, and more, and more. ya im rambling but im still drunk from the 80s party last night

i know that smoking chronic at 9,000ft fucks up alot more than sea level because theres barley any oxegen up there.

and yes to the above...more thc is getting to your brain with the less oxygen...kinda like when you hold in a hit as long as possible

When I was drinking in colorado for the first time (10,000 feet) I didnt really get drunk I drank about 8 or 9 beers and didnt get that fucked up. BUT.... The next day I had the worst hangover of my life and I've had some shitty hangover infact right now im working off a terrible wineover.

similar situation, smoking mj gets my friends that are hardcore runners messed up a lot easier, i am guessing it is due to massive lung capcity and effciency

No, oxygen will give you energy, but not get you high at all or anything. Pure oxygen will do nothing but good for you.

For those who care about it...at about 6000 feet, alcohol will have twice the effect that it does on someone acclimatized to sea level. Also causes dehydration and reduces your bodies capability to deal with a decreased level in oxygen. This can easily bring on HAPE. High Altitue Pulmonary Edema. If you drink WAY too much and you are not acclimatized, and are exerting youreslf, it could bring on HACE. High Altitude Cerebral Edema. This is when your brain swells and fluid leaks from your brain tissue. You may act like a dumbass, and hallucinate, but for those who wanna get wasted and high, I wouldn't reccomend it as it can also lead to coma and you'll die if you don't get down right away and do a bunch of other stuff. Alcohol intensifies all of this. So don't fucking go climb a mountain and drink! Or better yet, don't drink at all. Peace

13 beers isant that much. i drink 12 (a case) consistantly when i go out drinking. no hangovers either. its what takes me to get drunk. and its good ol canadian beer.
