i went 2 years ago in may..
the best time to go is as soon as all the EC ski mtns are closed..
check the weather ahead, pick out a good sunny day, not too warm.
have a backpack that you can mount your skis on and put your boots and gear in.
youll need a shit load of water and a big lunch to eat when you get to the bottom of the ravine.
get there early, and bring some good shoes/boots to hike in.

all this
and bring the lightest pair of skis u cna b/c 5 lbs is a big difference when u hike like 3 miles.
i did it too late in like june, try to go around may, cause then u will b able to ski down most of the way and it will be a lot better snow. water and food are nessecairy to have tons of.

the best part about doing it real early is so you can ski down that trail farther.. less hiking down.

I am going this friday and in my opinion pre may is the best time to go. This is mainly due to the fact that as you start getting later and later, skiing down the 2 mile hike to the "lunch rocks" because impossible. This means your hiking in, hiking the actual skiing part multiple times and hiking out. Ends up being alot of hiking. So id recommend going late april on a sunny and warm day.

The only problem with this weekend is it is the Tuckermans Inferno Race, which puts a ton of extra people on the trails/snow plus a race course down the headwall. Generally not a great weekend to rec ski it.
The biggest thing to remember is to be smart in tux. If you have never skied it, or even if you have, small mistakes can mean a 500ft scary slide to the ravine floor or worse. Falling ice, open water and crevasses all can cause problems. Remember to Hike what you Ski!
