my 4 year old PEs are messed up, all the edges are ripping off, the bindings are pretty messed, and the bases are gnarled-to-hell, I want to buy new skis... I'm 6'2" and pretty heavy, my skiing is progressing in to the pow more these days, and I want to spend more time in the park, but currently I'm not great, any help would be much appreciated!
I am sort of in the same boat as you size wise but I live in the EC. I got Surface Watch Lifes midway though the season when I broke my PEs and I couldn't be happier. They have a 183cm ski which is what I have and is perfect for guys our size. It has a 90mm underfoot so it can still rip it in pow. The best part about them is they are RIDICULOUSLY light for a ski their size and The tails are stiff, while the tips are nice and buttery and perfect to play with. Plus, you can't beat the price.
Those Surface Watch Lifes do look dope, and a bargain, but I still love K2, Just as a comparison, do you think the Seths or the PEs would be good ? Oh and does the "mini" rocker totally kill on-piste performance with the seths ???
My friend had them, he told me it made a slight difference. Seths killed in pow no matter what thought. Just cause the PEs are insanely stiff and HEAVY I wouldn't get them. If you are worried about durability with the Surfaces, I am 6'5 and ride mainly park and my Surfaces have none of the deep cuts in the topsheet like my PEs did. The PEs are a great starter ski, but once you get better its nicer to have something lighter, wider, and more playful. Seths are excellent, but the flex pattern and price sold me on the Surfaces.
Awesome, I'm going to try and get to an indoor slope so I can try out the Seths, and if I can find the surfaces in the UK those too... (yea I live in the UK, the worst ever country for skiing)
yea, they're pretty high up there, it's just I want to try the other skis before I decide. If I had to go buy a pair now I would just replace my PEs with more PEs I think they're sick...
