Ya, those were the days, Simon killing rails, Tanner out on the streets, JP doing killer drops and nuts rails, Pep absolutely schooling the urban game.

seriously pop in your ski movies fomr 05 and remember the good old days!

also i need to ee a video with the perfect combo of Urban, Bc, Park like TBC again, will it ever happen?

Guys, when was the last time you hit a feature to push the sport? Or hit a feature as a plan to legitimize your future as a skier? I never have. I ski stuff that is fun and readily available to me. What makes pros any different? Do you really think they plan to be progressive on rails so they can ski pow in a few years? Or do they just ski what's fun and readily available to them? I think that skiing is about enjoyment even when you're a pro.

no question am kids are holdin it down over the "pros" look at ahmet, martini, and any of wessons shit and as far as rails go the pros are on their tails, i aint ever seen tanner true transfer n spin out or lip fs sw up to pretz fs sw up to 270 out ...but in the long run skiin will get there eventually there will be mad breeds of skiers and just like snowboarding there will be pros who session strictly bc n park shoots and pros who session strictly rails i mean u can watch a snowboard movie with maybe a dozen jump shots n its still dope as hellll

The only "pro" left that can really compete with Ams on urban is Andreas.

Tanner is probably going to do some wild creative shit in massive though.

sammy brought alot of urban into his JOSS vid, and it was dope as hell.
i thought his was more interesting because it wasn't just all jumps, it actually had different features. freestyle skiing needs urban, if not it will end up like the Olympics, and just having people spin redicilous amounts,like snowboarding..eek..

lets talk about a real problem in rail skiing today: the step on.   The outbreak of the step on rail slide is something that is yet to be recognized.  The step on is such a widespread phenomonon most skiers dont even see the difference between an ollie and a step on.  .

if anybody is confused and needs a video clip or something as an example i'll be mroe than happy to provide one.

why is the step on so bad? some ppl use it at first when they hit urban, and when theyre more comfortable they switch to ollie on. Or some ppl probably just find it easier and stick with it. ^

If I could hit rails or ski pow, there in no question I would choose the latter.

Props to the pros if they can do that. After watching all the superunknown vids, I've had a lifetime's worth of rail footy.

Couldn't have said it better. Pros don't stick to jumps and powder because they can't do rails, it's because rails aren't half as fun. Additionally, rails don't take nearly the skill or the balls that large jumps, pipe and backcountry take. Now, I'm not saying that the occasional rail isn't cool, but I see so many kids these days doing all that ballerina boner steeze shit (aka like 3 switch ups and shit) on rails, but then they can't ski or jump. Don't think that pro skiers aren't willing to risk hurting themselves on rails, because backcountry is way more dangerous. And finally, I would like to see an amature with the bag of rail tricks that Andreas Hatveit has, that dude is a machine.

this is the problem with skiing right now, everyone thinks rails are some stepping stone to recognition in some crazy cookie cutter routine to becoming pro. 

A pro is someone whos good at something and PAID to do it.

There should be rail pros, along with the jump pros, and the backcountry pros that there are right now. Theres no recognition for it though, so all the best rail riders don't get shit until they flatspin 720 a spring photoshoot table.

Rails are about to get real legit, they're already on the way(i'm talkin street stuff not box combo 360 sw up shit), hopefully the industry will realize this and give some support to the people really pushing the sport in a different area, cause lets face it, with all this jon olsson super engineered jumping, skiing is turning into freestyle mx crossed with gymnastics.

Copy that bro, the industries getting a bit too contrived, why not replace jumps with trampolines and cut out the middle man...

hats off to the guys pushing this sport away from that,

however the massive kickers guys are throwing shit down on now do look pretty impressive, its also gonna encourage more "outsiders" to get involved...

I like whats going on with Hunting yeti and the Nimbus crew, it's a great mix they've got going on there, loads of technical stuff, but they're out hitting BC and looking sick at the same time...

So you think you can be a pro skier who isn't well rounded enough to do a basic trick like a seven? I think by definition a pro skier can destroy anything put in there path, which is what makes guys like tanner so good. And I'm not saying street rail tricks aren't already legit, I'm saying that seeing how many spins you can get on a rail somewhere isn't skiing, and it's not that cool. What makes you want to ski on rails in the city anyway? The only reason I can think of is because you can't go actual skiing right then.

Yeah, it's kind of embarrassing that more pros don't kill urban shit. Some hold it down, but not nearly as many as should be holding it down. The Ams are undoubtedly more skilled on rails...no question.

i was watching  a clip from someweher, might have been armada podcast, but it was of tanner doing butters on to urban from 4 or 5 years ago, and i thought it was insane. you dont see people doing tat even now, and tanner was nailing them back then.

skiing is different than snowboarding and peanut butter is different than jam....start reading anthony b's blog on joystick and think for yourself, thats why snowboarding is so COOL, because people think for themselves and learn new things instead of trying to copy each other.

the plug for joystick was irrelevant but that blog is the sickest thing to happen to skiing

pretty well, i mean

i laugh at everybody in the parks for being such skiers all the time. snowboarders too though, they have a lot of really weird stuff going on with their views on what is sick and stuff (mostly spoon fed "hey this is cool & creative guys!" shit from companies)

I never said anything about doing 7s, and as the sport progresses and expands, a "pro" will not be able to kill all areas like in the past when skiing was less diverse and less evolved trick wise.

First of all you specifically mentioned rail skiers not being recognized until the did 7s. Read your post.

And I don't think I missed your point, I think your saying pros should be able to specialize in one aspect of the sport. I agree, I'm simply saying that they need to be at least solid at all aspects of the sport or else they are not pro skiers, they are pro rail riders or some shit (Skiing is using boards to slide on snow, not metal).

you're seeing it already. pipe and mega ramp jocks like dumont don't dare touch their skis to metal, let alone pavement, anymore. they train to their fullest on one part of the sport and one part only. and, to repeat, it's only going to get worse as things fork and things get more intense in all the aspects of the sport.

it's like in skateboarding now. you don't see bob burniquist and danny way hitting up the streets to skate. they've got megaramps in their backyard for that. these "pros" that make millions and millions every year wouldn't be able to top some of the newest ams on the street

all the big pros may have revolutionized urban, but the truth is they don't focus on it anymore. There are some rediculous kids slyin right now. go watch meathead's latest film Wanderland and the rail seg in that movie is rediculous. switch ups, 270 on, 270 off, rail transfers. shit is insane
