World Quarters 2008. Shit. I feel like I should have a drink in my hand just typing this. Good thing I just made another. After 4 years of hibernation, sort of like the Olympics but way better, the World Quarterpipe Championships has come back in a new spot with a new crowd but the same attitude. Let's have a contest, get really drunk, and all have the best time possible. There might not have been a Rolex given out for any thirty-foot airs but the amount of free beer and whiskey made up for that. There sure as hell wasn't a crowd of tens of thousands of people, but there was plenty of snowball throwing, beer can tossing, beer spraying, and of course a big ass fire pit you had to jump over before the quarterpipe. What I'm trying to get at here is that this is a contest is something different than any others. Headed by Pat Bridges of Snowboarder Magazine this is something you see after The Open is truly an event for snowboarders with none of that TV bullshit. Timber Ridge was the new venue and there absolutely could not have been any better new host other than the Waker family. Chris Waker is real good snowboarder that you will be seeing in the near future. He was shredding the whole time with proper style for the contest with plenty of frosty brews and never leaving his buddy Jack Daniels behind. The other man that made the whole event possible was Timber Ridge owner Tim Waker working to make the quarter pipe with many different cool features other than the strait up and down. For the highlights, you will see the photos. Thanks to everyone that helped make this and made it such fun. See you next year.

Next
Year, Lets Blow up a car!! If I was keeping a tally that would be the
only thing missing from the World Quarters this year. This event was
great, we rolled up at 1pm after lunch when most contests would be over
and they were just starting to get the gauntlet rolling. You have to
love it when you can finally get some sleep and don't miss a beat.
The environment was awesome, amidst all the booze, flames and airs, their was a good positive vibe rolling through the abandoned resort Timber Ridge and everyone was just stoked to see that one another made it out. Seriously kids were getting hammered, and snowboarding, and drinking more and snowboarding harder. Especially Snowrev crew member Joe Carter. He was fucking drunk, on the job, shredding and we love that about him. No matter what the conditions Joe will still do what he set out to do.
This was one of the best events I have been to. Its so funny how all of these contests differ. You have great events like The Quiksilver Natural Selection in Jackson Hole, The World Quarters in Southern Vermont. Then you have the shitty events like the ESPN X Games. I base this on multiple factors including 1. Rider Stress Levels 2. Rider Accessibility for fans 3. Core Media Appreciation 4. Overall Impression. The world quarters is in the top ten best events ever in my book.
I can't say enough about how much of a good time I had at the World Quarters. I personally want to thank Josh and Paul from Rome Snowboards, Pat Bridges, Chris and Tim Waker from the abandoned TImber Ridge ski resort. You guys held one of the best parties/ Snowboard sessions ever.

- Construction 2008 World Quarter Pipe Championships Timber Ridge, Vermont (Joe Carter Photo)
- I have always had this dream of buying my local resort and turning it into an open shredingground. Tim and Chris Waker living my dream. (Joe Carter Photo)
- The options on this quarterpipe were endless. Lets start left to right. Hit the tombstone qpstraight which had the best tranny, hit the tombsone and launch to the back like Ted Rah on his double attempt, hit the middle qp which had a tight tranny, hit the log jib (which eventually was lit on fire) or fucking gap to the roof from the quarter pipe.
- Hand plant nose grab. Fuck yeah that shit felt good.
- These people all need to be at the Gauntlet next year. For this year they were merely spectators.
- We got to meet Greg Bokenkamps family the day before he blasted such a clean air. His house is so chill, his family is so nice, and you see why he is such a cool kid. (Joe Carter Photo)
- Definitely not just spectators. NIck Russell is a very cool kid that rips and ahh Joe Carter the fucking Crypt Keeper. Joe was leading the pack at the Gauntlet. Raising Hell, but all in good fun.
- WHooaaa, Bode Merrill
- Straight out of hell comes the Gauntlet. Vermont scum bag Tim Benasich battles the fiery inferno.
- World Quarter could also be called Dude feast 2008. Nick grabbing the only tail around these parts. (Joe Carter Photo)
- This guy is a genius. Rome Snowboards founder and marketing guru Josh Reid. So pretty much everything that you love about Rome stems from this guys brain. (Joe Carter Photo)
- Ted Rah, back breaker.
- Ted Rah after going a round with the US Open big air jump. I bet Tyson would do more damage, but maybe not. This guy is a serious beast. (Johnny Centi Photo)
- Oh my god. Ted Rah backflip the fire pit.
- The new owner of Timber Ridge Tim Waker, and the man Pat Bridges. Bridges is one of the realest people you will find in this industry and he fucking knows how to throw an event. (Joe Carter Photo)
- Think Thanks Chris Beresford Method air on the tombstone.
- Timber Ridge owner Chris Waker full speed double fisting with the bottle of jack and the SMS flask full of Jack. (Joe Carter Photo)
- Chris Waker is one of the luckiest kids in the world. His dad bought this abandoned resort in Southern Vermont and built him a personal quarterpipe to shred.
- Multiple kids were airing from the Quarterpipe to the roof. It was sick for sure and only a snowboarder would see something like this. I love the snowboarders mentality. Austin Granger going for the gap. (Joe Carter Photo)
- Austin is punk as fuck writing in his own blood. Can't remember if this cut was from Austin falling off the top of the house behind him, a beer can or a 70mph fall getting towed behind the redneck sled mobile.
- Nick Russell solid air on the quarterpipe.
- Two East coast natives Nick and Shayne stoked to be at the World Quarter (Joe Carter Photo)
- Bode making through the gauntlet and after being pegged by the firing squad.
- Rome's Paddock shooting some photos
- Double take crowd favorite and Rome's own Greg or Gerg if you see him later at the bar.
- Somebody get the fire extinguisher Nick Russell is on fire.
- Greg hiking the QP all day
- Despite a fucked up a back Snowboard Revolution Owner Johnny Centi going for the one foot andrecht.
- Bridges clearing out the soft snow making a perfect hard landing for this next hit body slam.
- Tim Kempsen bakie over of the fire as snowballs wizz by.
- They don't teach this at SMS. Ian Kirk and Chris doing it proper. (Joe Carter Photo)
- Rome's filmer John Cavan thumbs up with Bridges slurring about something on the mic.
- The Gauntlet. Where anything goes, especially spitting beer at your fellow riders that are brave enough to face you. Something tells me Joe Carter had this idea.
- John Centi
- As I hiked up the hill for my first round I see Ted Rah come charging down over the gauntlet where he gets blasted by multiple snowballs by the gauntlet firing squad. It looks like they are about to cook something in this fire pit full of wood. As I begin to strap in I see multiple Timber RIdge security bring barrels of gasoline and lighter fluid over to the wood. A little tension builds as I finish to strap my last binding strap. All the sudden POOOFF!!! Flames begin to burn, explosions are happening in the fire, the firing squad is strapped and Im dropping. As I approach the gauntlet I can feel the heat and all then I make my jump through. Avoiding all snowballs, beer spit and anything that would have been thrown my way. I land and head to the quarterpipe. Fly passed the crowds on the left, head up the qp, handplant, head down, ride to the side and grab me a beer.
- Ted Raw sending yet another backflip.
- The Man again, Pat Bridges
- Tim Waker basking in all his glory.
- Tim breaking in Bode's new 50 mini bike.
- Hell fucking yea! I wish my dad was this cool.
- Shayne Pizzle Pospisil was fucking boosting all day. This kid has some of the best style in the game.
- Ross Powers skipped the Olympics for the World Quarters contest in his home state.
- Teddy Rah going for the double back. He is claiming triple back at this years grenade games!
- This bottle of Jack had to be finished before the awards were given. Nick Russell making bubbles.
- Tim straight chuggin. Bottle halfway down.
- YEAH Joe Carter, hard at work... Don't worry he will get the rest.
- Rome Snowboards team rider Greg Bokencamp has mad style. He has spent his last few weeks out filming with Bjorn Leines and is sure to have a sick video part in "No Correct Way". We need the teaser for snowrev when it comes out.
- Rome's Ron ready to start giving out awards
- Gabe McGovern is a World Quarters Vet, and hes back to take the junior shredder award.
- Fire everywhere possible, burn all the wood. Lighting everything on fire seems the be mandatory for the world quarter.
- Bode Merrill frontside invert on the burning log during his victory lap.
- Bode's not buried treasure. $1,000 in quarters. I bet he will have fun cashing that in.
- Plus a 50 CC dirtbike.
- Bode Merrill fucking rips. 1st Place Gold Record.
- Joe Carter is the newest addition to the Snowrev crew. This kid is the fucking man. Crypt Keeper. The funniest thing I may have ever heard was Joe telling me about our lack of towels " Its all good man, I am probably not going to shower the whole time".
- The party never stops... After party at the Magic Mountain Lodge with live Music from Porno Tongue.
This was the best contest ever! See you all next year!
