New Marker bindings, not Duke or Jester same style but 08/09 season

Has anyone heard about these yet? Or what they're called. I can't remember the name but they're supposed to hit the market at $220. The only thing that I heard is that they replaced the metal (whatever it was) with aluminum to save cost.

Also what is the problem that people have with Marker bindings I've always wondered this?

the problem with markers is that they frequently break...this new binding does not sound too well

yeah its the griffon for the jesters and the barons for the dukes
they're just a cheaper version of the duke and jester but the din only go's to 12 and the red shock thing is black

1st picsee the black coil thing instead of the red on the second duke(baron) and second jester(griffon)
2nd the baron and the griffon have diff little picture things see duke has a ram juster has a spades sign
baron has a knights helmet griffon has a griffon(lion-bird)

so maybe I need to be schooled on bindings but do people really use a din passed 12 or is it that people just want the option. just in case.

so anything else on marker what is supposed to be bad?

and if they break dont these sh!ts have warranties ?

yea... i mean i ride with my park din at 12 and my big mountain din at 14... and normally you dont want to set your din at your bindings highest setting as its not to good for the spring...

and yes they'll have warranties, but who wants to be constantly getting your skis fixed...

when companies give you the option ±2 from max/min is optimal. so jesters (6-16 din) are good for 8-14 which is pretty reasonable for alot of bigger riders, park, and big mountain.  Alot of people will put their din up for serious mountain riding too.  The 12 din is optimal for 5-10 so you just need to evaluate what din you ride and pick which ever model is more appropriate. ie your din falls in the middle of the optimal range

i'm 6 foot 210 and i have  a din of 8 normally

depends on a combination of your height, weight, BSL, ability level, and the company.  I'm 5'10 170 and recommended is about an 8 for me.  I end up riding around 9 usually.  I can't tell you what to set/get but any local shop or tech could help ya out

yea ive never understood why they have high din bindings like rossi 200s. The highest din on a shop chart is like 12 or 13. Most decent skiers ride a little higher than the shop recommends. But it seems like you have to be 6-5 286lbs and riding at mach 4 inorder to come out of an 18din setting

Guys at my shop said that when they were demoing next years skis, almost all companies had marker binders.  They said they had to look down to tell if they were riding the jesters or the griffon so they sound pretty quality.  Also, theyre lighter because they dont have that huge spring in the back.

The chart really only helps people who don't know what din they should be at, not what din you should be riding. Many people, especially racers, need a really high din. There are bindings with 20 for the highest dins.

really i have never any release problems what-so-ever. maybe i should adjust mine and see if i notice that much of a change.
it seems as if most people dont want marker due to the fact that they are the largest brand and thats not the freeskiing way. its more about the abstract brands.
also what would someone recommend for a setting on binding placement?

i think its more of marker has gotten a bad reputation from previous bindings pre releasing and such. look at salomon, theyre huge yet people love them so your "largest brand" theory cant be right.

judging by the picture they look about the same. i would guess the spring would be a little lighter since it has a lower din.

^reviews for the duke and jester have been alot better than the free bindings. Haven't heard too many complaints about the jesters.

c. snow gets stuck in the track where you lock and unlock the binding for touring mode and it is the biggest bitch ever to get the binding to lock in

also for everyone, markers aside from dukes, jesters, etc suck because they ahve a biometric toe piece which is notorious for pre-releasing and tearing ACL's and the din range is much lower than it's said to be, a 12 din binding cranked all the way is probably around a 10 normal binding, so they just aren't good

Actually, this is incorrect.  I have found that the biometric toes are actually the MOST accurate for release values.  What i find to be annoying is the vertical release.  There is almost no elasticity in the toe release either.

the barons are going to be .3 pounds lighter, retail at 370, and have a din only of 12, they just replaced some metal pieces on the dukes with plastic
and i don't know the diff of the griffin
but the dukes and jesters are staying pretty much the same

whenever i used to jump off anything, my toes would pre-release, hence the biometric toe piece flaw. i once snapped the whole toe piece off by landing backseat. i just really don't trust them, but i love my dukes

yeah, they just compare other bindings to markers, which are the controls for 'pre-releases a lot'

yes, and the release mechanism is so small that it is impossible to interchange with gloves on which means you must freeze your fingers fighting it. but other than that i really like my dukes.

And Jesters are really just 12 din (maybe 14) bindings with a 16 din spring. They are really not that strong, I have seen way to many explode on people, when they really should not have (on say a 30 ft jump)
Sure the people who normaly ski on px12's or solly sth12's and 912's won't have a problem because they are not the people who are needing the strength of a 16 din binding. When the people who use race stock bindings because they don't break switch over to Jesters, they distroy the bindings. So the Griffin might be a good binding, just like the Jester is a decent binding if you don't actually need a 16 din binding.

Um no.  There is a machine that measures the release values to the Nm.  It goes along with the DIN chart.  Markers are always the most accurate, but that doesnt mean they are the best for a twin application.

Come on guys, the jester can't be that bad, if there's as many pros as there is riding on it, not to mention switching to it, then it can't be that prone to "exploding"

just buy some damn race px bindings from look or rossi that have a din to 15. great binding, super simple, reliable, and cheap

stop looking for the new fanciest binding out there, technology from the early 90's is still the best when it comes to bindings. (ex: the movie Aspen Extreme came out in 1993, all the guys rock fks heels. pros today rock fks heels)

^all the people talkign shit about bindings are talking about marker PRE-duke/jester.  markers suck.  i ride my fks at 12 on my praxis.  5'11", 175.  the binding charts are made so that shops won't get sued.  they aren't the "optimal" value, but a safe value.  oh and about riding at 12 (OMG SO HARDCORE OMG)...i didn't crank the bindings up to that value...the shop did.  they saw i was bringing in some sick bindings (fks 185s), sick skis (praxis 185s), and they asked me how i skied (cliffs blah blah pow)....and thats what they decided.  super legit shop.  mounted my fks without a jig on a 135 mm waist ski.

^markers pre-duke/jester suck.  the duke and jester seem so sick, but i heard they eventually develop some slop and i'm not going into the bc a shitton yet.  my friends dukes help up to 60fter real nice and shitloads of other decent drops.

so i was told from a guy at the local shop that theyre replacing the magnesium with stainless steel or aluminum i cant remember exactly but either way theyre supposed to be heavier.

he also said that he thinks that he would have one hell of a time trying to smash those up because he just skied them up at whistler and said they were nice as hell.
