This is a new terminology to me, and was wondering if I could get a little help getting a better understanding of this. With my racing skis, the "running surface" was pretty much the same as the ski lenth (obviously a little less to account for the slight upturn on the nose).
However, I am looking at various skis and in particular the Line Anthem @ 178cm has a running surface of 148.3cm. I was wondering does this mean that these skis "ski" like 148-150 cm racing skis in that they have the same length of contact with the snow?
If this is the case, then there shouldnt be a problem with having slightly too long of skis? Or at least not as big of a problem as with too long of racing skis? Then the other thought I had was: Obviously you dont want to go to the same "running surface" as my racing 170cm skis because then the ski would be like 220cm! so there must be some guidance on the top end of length for the skis.
Im looking at J.O. Pros @178cm because I hear they are good for jumping and extra length helps with stability on landing but not so hot on rails and else. Maybe the Line
Anthems @169 (or whatever the closest size is) for rails and other tricks? Ive read around that you dont want to be trashing out the edges on skis that you normal do jumps with by doing rails with them?
