I bought a pair of 07-08 Prophet 130's earlier this year, and they have been sitting around my living room unmounted. I'd like to get them mounted, but am also considering getting rid of them. Anyways, where have you mounted your Prophet 130's and how do they work out for you? The suggested line is quite a ways back, which is making me search for other opinions. I'm 6'2", 175 lbs, ride the PNW, and ski more powder/trees than anything else, if I can help it, although I do like to jump, these skis would not go into the park.
Early rise, minimal rocker really. I want them to be somewhat playful, but I don't want them mounted close to center. Recommended is 8 cm back from true center by my measurements. Anyone have some insight here?
im gonna be honest and say you should either mount them at recommended or not at all. thats where the ski will perform best and you will get the most out of its design.
This is what I have been juggling around in my head for some time now. Recommended looks extrememly far back and there is very little room leftover as a "tail." Just wondering if they could ski/land switch much or at all that far back. Not looking to use them as a jib ski, but would like to mess around on them every now and again.
if thats what you want in a ski, then the 130s arent for you. get some hellbents. true, there is not much tail left, but thats because these skis were never ever ever meant to ski switch.
i have mounted all my skis for the past 4 years true center. when it came time to mount my 130's i debated as to where i should mount them. I ended up mounting true center and love them. the reasons for this are 1) i like to ski switch in deeper pow, much easier with more tail 2) i like try and land switch in deeper pow, center mounting makes it more succesful. 3)i like the balanced feel of a center mounted ski while spinning. these are not my park skis and will not see a rail, although i have taken them on the tables. the only drawback for me is that center mounting puts more weight on the tip, and suprising for such a fat ski, i actually have to lean back a little in deep pow to keep the tips from submarining.
i have the K2 kahunas (basicaly same ski as the mad'n AK's, just different topsheet and name) that i mounted at +4.5 (center is at +9 i believe). i can still ski switch on them in deeper pow, i just have to lean more forward then on the 130's. they are better for charging hard in deep pow without as much quad burn. obvioulsy, they don't feel as balanced in the air.
that being said i use my 130's as my "playful" powder ski and the K2's when i don't feel like bringing park elements of riding into the powder. inevitably, i reach for my 130's on deep pow days. both skis ride pow extremely well but it depends on your type of riding as to where you should mount them. hope this helps
That does give me something to go on. Thanks. I don't want center, due to the directional flex of the ski, but recommended is quite a ways back. I will have some fat 'play' skis on the way shortly, as the 130's are obviously not as well suited to that compared to others. Maybe somewhere between 3-5 back from center, unless someone else has anything to contribute.
He is going to Chile to shred pow all summer while we're playing with ourselves here.
If they were my skis, I'd lay them out on a table or bench or the ground. Measure from where the rocker starts in the tip and where it starts in the tail. Mount halfway between there. But, that's just me. I've mounted Ep Pros and Hellbents that way, and they kick ass. I'd imagine the Prophets tail rocker would start a little further back, so the mount wouldn't be as close to center as it would on the HB or EP.
