lung cancer is not one. I'm trying to quit smoking (cigs) and was wondering if anyone else here has quit with success. I need some encouragement, it's really hard. I've smoked for 6 years.


Remember 'I' before 'E', except in Budweiser.

I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

I heard an ad on the radio the other night comparing smoking cigs to slowly committing suicide. Interesting thought (and I gotta quit too, come close before, but never put em down - just need the right motivation).

People bash on smokers all the time, but never seem to realize just how difficult it is to quit, even if you want to.

yeah it's so hard. I've tried many times, using nicorette, patch, etc... everytime i fail. damn man this time i hope i can do it. this is my first day.

some good advice I got before, don't tell yourself you are quitting, tell yourself you are stopping. Psychologically it is easier, because if you stop, you can re-start, but if you say you are quitting and start back up, you have failed, which makes it tougher stop again further down the road.

In my opinion, Cold Turkey is the way to go, and good luck, but the closest I came to quitting was by using these filter things. They were in 4 stages, and you got less and less nicotine and tar. I felt like an ass using them, but so be it, and my cravings almost went away (but then I had one without the filters and I was right back in it).

Good luck man, just remember the first 2 weeks are the hardest, get through that and you'll be ok. And for those tough cravings, try taking a bic pen (take the ink out of course) and cut it about the size of a smoke. When the urge hits you, just breath through the pen like it was a smoke, the rhythmic breathing should help calm your nerves and ease the craving.

Personaly I believe my short term memory has been affected but that is the main side effect and I also think maybe my short term memory has been affected.

good advice manus thanks! i heard someone say that cravings only last a few minutes then you forget about it. not on day 1 though!

man, I'll tell ya, I quit doing drugs (mainly smoking weed - but done plenty of drugs whether by choice or not), basically quit drinking, and quitting smokes is by far the hardest.

You know, I don't really regret anything I've done in my life, but if there was one thing I could un-do, it would definately be starting smoking.

i stopped smoking (weed) for a while and now i have cut down its not hard but i imagine cigs are WAY harder.
