Musicians, I have a fun idea!!!

I was looking through some of my old threads from ways back. And there was one on people in bands. And I thought to myself... it would be great if I recorded something, like a guitar track, and sent it to, ummm, say Pat, or Teddy, or CTripper, or Kamikaze, or any of those guys that were in the post, and then they added something else and passed it on....and we could keep doing this till the song seemed finished. It would be a fun little project....It would take some time but.... could be fun, maybe even make a Newschoolers theme song... hahaha, what do you think? Anybody want to? It'll be our own little Postal Service!!! Coz, Pat, Kami, Teddy?????

Haha, I know you're Lane, I said that because Jason (Cowboy) has heard the mp3's of a terrible band I used to play with. I play the piano! And a couple of other instruments. A little guitar etc. What do you play?

I play lots of stuff, nothing with an abundance of skill though. I have my own studio, in a sense....Guitars, keys, percussion, etc...Digital 8 track, Yorkville studio monitors, iBook, etc...

yeah, i'm not sure how to record into your computer... prolly just be able to download a free program off download.com, plug a mic into the aux on your computer, and then send it to me??? Not sure, maybe someone can post some info regarding this??? We need a harp player too man so that is good. So...

Keep posting... and we'll figure shit out... I guess I'll start working on some basic tracks. It'll be a hybrid electronic/rock thing I suppose... Anyone drum? If not I can sequence on my Triton... Lyrics? Vocals? Bass guitar? Anything? We'll shoot for like a two minute track. If anyone has anything, shoot it through to me. Ideas? Ideas? Ideas?

I got bass, or harmonica, ha.

I think to get this to acctually sound any good we need to have it written out before, and then have someone record the drum line, then bass on that, then guitar, or whatever. And have one central person that will mix all the tracks together and such.

If you write a bass line all basied on the key of the entire song it's not gunna interlock with the guitar part at all. Atleast lay out the chord progression before writing any lines.

ok, i see what you mean. u write the bass lines to the chord the guitarist is playing. but that's still in the same key, just a different chord. but i get what you're saying. Like the key of G includes the chords G, C, A, Em, and so on.

lane, i figured out how to record now. are you going to just take a bass line and add to it, then send it to the next person? for instance, record the guitar part or whatever, then send that to the bass player. he can send you his part, then you put it with the guitar and send the 2 part song to the next dude. am i understanding this right?

for those who dont know how to record... go to Download.com and search something like 'Line in Recording' Then, if you have some means of output you can plug it into the LINE IN part of your computer or you could just hook up a mic in the MIC port. Then just record mp3s.. it's very easy to do, i used to record stuff off my minidisc player all the time.

i agree that blues would be easiest, but it wouldnt be much fun for anyone else besides guitarists. I mainly play blues guitar, and Led Zeppelin style rock, and am just starting jazz. We could do a jazzy rock jam, which would be fun for everyone. drummers can do a fancy beat, bassists can go off, and guitarists would have a great tune to play over. I think we should mainly focus on the groove of the song, rather than a structured song. this is a jam, isn't it?

if you're looking on a way to record it, go to your school and talk to a music teacher. They would probably have a recorder, I know my school has a bunch. and they're super easy to use, just put the tape in and go
