Internships... : S

i would only really go for an internship if i was commited to it and i knew 100% that it was what i wanted to pursue, but that's just me.

well its an internship, not a co-op then i would take it.  An internship might as well be called a job, except you are working for a company that is in you field.  The fact that you dont know if you want to go into photography shouldnt really matter.  Just imaging it as another job, that pays well, and if you choose to stick with it it will help you out.  And if you choose not to stick with it, there are no consequences of taking it.

Thanks for the responses. Well I have been working at a golf course as a cart attendant, so yeah nothing long term hahaha. This was most likely my last year anyways. The job is alright, pretty hard work, but great benefits and pretty good tips. The bummer is my summers are consumed by work, golf, and practicing, so I will no longer have a course to go to aka live at...I guess having this job at the course for the past 3 years has given me a very comfortable lifestyle, which I don't want to give up, but at the same time will probably never get the same opportunity as this internship. I restate,  : S

Gotta be thinking about the future, if your boss treats you like a son I'm sure he will respect your decision to move on to what you really want to do in life.

You should definitely go for the internship.  A lot of times an internship can turn in to a job after you graduate college.  If you've got an in at a prestigious studio I'd take it.  It's not everyday that opportunity knocks at your door.  If you decide that you don't want to do photography for a career then cool, whatever.  It's better to learn that now as opposed to finding out later in life when career mobility isn't quite as easy.  And it's not like you're going to be a cart attendant for the rest of your life either...

I passed on several internships in undergrad because I had a good paying "job".  I kicked myself in the ass so many times after college because I didn't have the established connections that I would have gained if I had gotten my foot in the door early.  It was a lot harder getting my career rolling whereas some of my less intelligent classmates walked right into their positions.

Just my $.02.  Good luck with whatever decision you make.

werd, your boss will understand. the internship will be pretty valuable for you in the long term, even if you decide not to carry on with photography you've got a good thing to put on your CV

hmmm thanks for the advice guys...I guess it does make sense to take the internship, but Ill think about it.

definately go for the internship. try something new. even if you dont want to pursue it itll be a new experience and youll be with hopefully rad people. it will diversify your portfolio

Does this internship pay?

nope. minimum of 3-4 days a week, 8 hour days. the work will be pretty bad too. quote "we will never have you print for more than 4 hours a day because you could develop a sty on your eye" .......ummmmmm hahahhaha

no pay is pretty weak, a top photography studio could afford minimum wage.
