 hi everybody so today at breck i went into freeway and hadnt been there for a while cuz i rid keystone. anyways at the top thought it was just a flat bar. hit it and as i was coming off realized there was about a 10 foot gap. i clipped my back ski popped out and landed on it. fractured elbow and i have surgery wednesay. moral of the story scope stuff before you hit it and dont assume its ok. thats what i did and now my season is over.

That sucks man, I always think check it out before you hit it though, at least you are only missing like 2 more weeks at key and 3 at breck, to bad you are missing gaper day though.

Damn that sucks man. Good advice for sure. I always like to take a run through the park and speed check the jumps to make sure they were not changed before hitting anything.

I know many of us have experianced stuff like that b4 even if it wasn't in the park such as seeing a little fad-away roller or something and it turns out to be a 20 footer to groomer...... talk about shinbang

Without question always scope...whenever possible I use a spotter for bigger hits with blind landings in highly trafficked parks. Sorry to hear about the injury man. Good luck with the surgery and get well soon.

thats a bummer man. At least its one of those injuries you can come back from with little issue.

But it is a painful reminder that you should scout everything out ahead of time, especially shit that can be something bigger, such as everything in freeway at breck.
There are quite a handful of people that ski around here (washington) that see little need it checking features out, even bigger ones (e.g. jumps around 60+ feet), and many times, just start spinning and shit first run, even if they haven't skied, let alone seen the feature, in a week or more. It bugs the shit out of me, but then again, I'll take my time over several runs to get shit dialed so hopefully I won't be the guy with the broken elbow... or back or some wicked shit like that.

I did that exact same thing Tuesday!  I was lucky enough to be going fast enough to clear the flat though, just fell hard after that.  That thing is like a 20 foot jump with a rail in the middle, but you can't see it and the shallow run in is deceiving.

i didn't really have a feel for this jib at tamarack idaho, and hit it to fast on a tail tap, sent my momentum forward and i broke my collarbone by landing on flat off of it.  i was gonna make a thread similar to this but didn't wanna type only left handed.

yeah, always scope it out. i went to hit was a little 5 foot cliff but it turned out to be a 15 footer with a flat icy landing. my knees came up and seperated my lip and i got the wind knocked out of me. i was lucky, it could have been alot worse, now i always check out that stuff.

dang dude thats a bummer. but most of us dont ski at keystone. we dont have crazy rails with gaps and all this. but still thanks for the tip

i scoped, but didnt take a warmup hit, and  just straight went for a backflip off a medium sized jump. first one in my life, and landed 90 degrees off and caught my edge and dumped it and broke my collarbone and nose...so ik how you feel

That rail was much gnarlier than I thought.  I landed about 1 foot past that dudes head and fell pretty hard.
