PVC pipe for backyard rail?

I'm makin a rail for my backyard and I've seen people make it out of wood and put PVC pipe on the top. I was wonderin what thickness of PVC I should use and how much it costs.

1, build a jib cult. 2 yeah just screw it right on the wood. 3. i bought two 1 and a half tubes.

PVC works great except it WILL break, but its easy as fuck to replace. Also I find that using like 3 or 4 3/4" pipes works better than 2 bigger diameter pipes.

idk just go and buy som that looks like would work.....wait even better go steal som from somwhere its everywhere. go hit up the local dump if your low on dough that would be an easy find

yeah the pipes are like 10 bucks so very cheap and lots of fun for your money

i always use 1  1/2 inch, but just make sure you get solid PVC cause if not they'll break on like the first or second hit, you can tell if they're solid cause they will be white all the they way through.  If you look at the end and see a thin layer of white then a yellowish layer then white layer dont get it.  the yellow is just foam and it's really weak

I found that using 4 half inch pvc pipes on on the 4 inch side of a 2x4 works the best.  Anything pvc will break after a while though but it is quite easy to replace.

no, there like a little over $1 depending on the diameter. I think a 10' 1.25" diameter pvc pipe was like 1.49 at home depot for me.

PVC is the cheapest and most bang for your buck material for boxes and rails. If a pipe breaks on your rail(it took about a year or two for mine to break), then you just unscrew it, and put a new pipe on. no big deal.

i use 3 either 1.5 or 1 inch pipes, not sure which one.  screw from the bottom up into the pvc like this:

go to the hardware store bro, they will have dollar amounts on stickers which they have cleverly stuck to everything in the store. its amazing really.

get abs its the black looking pvc and its alot stronger and i got a 12 2inch pipe for 11$ at homehardware

Remember to dull you edges before you ski on the pvc, cause if you catch an edge and make a large scratch or dent the pvc rail it is then useless, unless you can fix it, but it was hard for me to fix on my rail.

20' metal poll is mostlikely your best bet, I was lucky enough to have one leaning on the side of my house, I think from my brothers skating days.

Before I found that though I used PVC, I wasn't much of a builder and my rail did turn out like shit but I think the one of two times I actually made it on (yeah it was bad) it slid fairly decent. Or just hit up a construction site, those big white pipes slide easy.

Works great, damn cheap, and an thickness will work, respectively.  I'd use two 2'' PVCs side by side to simulate flat rail, or one really thick one for just like a rail.

this is exacly what I did.. I used 3   1 1/2 pipes and stuck them on a 6 in by 10 foot board and I even followed his technique^ but at each end I sent a screw down through the pipe. I didnt drill down through the top but through the opening.
Also I was having some trouble drilling up (the pipe would rise up as the screw was going in from below) but what I found out works is if you drill up then reverse the screw so the pipe comes back down then drill in again. this will force the pipe to be against the board and not risen up. Mine was sturdy as hell and I can get you some pictures later on but serioulsy. build 101 thread

Mine consists of a metal frame with a metal bar screwed in as the rail, and that bar is covered with a pvc tube so my bottoms don't get ruined and the pvc wont break...

This setup is, IMHO ideal for backyard practice but its rather xpensive, not easy to make end it weighs a ton (or atleast A LOT! )
