You may want to consult a doctor mabee its depression? But theres alot of people that cut themselves that dont wear girl jeans or have gay hair cuts.

There are many non-emo kids that seem to dress like it as well.  I wouldn't call yourself emo either, if you are feeling down, it could be somewhere along the lines of depression.  Just find a person you are comfortable talking to and see what they can do, or if you are up to it go to a psychiatrist (over $100 for like an hour though).

emo's just short for emotional.  If you hate your life, cut yourself, and drown your sorrows in alcohol and a bottle of pills, you just might be considered emo even if you dress like a gangster.

But to be serious, if you think you have a problem or even just need to work shit out, talk to a therapist.  If you're still in high school go see your guidance counselor if you get along with him.  Maybe they can lead you in the right direction

see a psychiatrist, its a 20 dollar copay if you have decent insurance, and it can definitely help

emo is definitly not a fashion statement, it is a state of mind. i feel that some pople do it as a fashoin statement and that is really lame cause emo is not cool, but emo is defintily a state of mind

emo used to be more of a state of mind back in the days of smashing pumpkins and musical groups like that..now its just kids see their favorite bands dyeing their hair black and painting their nails and just copy it to look cool....so if your depressed and emotional then thats what your are...but that is NOT GOOD...talk to someone man whatever is getting you down whether you know what it is or not will eventually come out by talking to someone who has been educated about situations like urs
