Using old ski as a jig to mount new ski

i am moving my binders from my old skis to some new skis i just acquired. the old ski is broken in half so i am not worried about ruining it. my plan is to drill through the old ski with a drill press, clamp it to the new ski to use as a template, mark my holes and drill. has anyone run into problems with this method?

it seems like it would work but be really carefull not to drill too far cuase it seems like it would be harder to tell how deep you are into the bottom ski

a paper jig might be a little easier to work with.

I think that would work great. just drill all the way through the holes on the old ski so you have the pattern, then put over new ski and mark through the holes. only problem I can see is getting it perfectly centered, especially if the skis are a different width.

an FYI for future users, i just got done mounting my skis, i drilled through the old ones and c clamped them together i then marked on the new ski with my drill bit where to drill, put a depth ring on my drill bit and drilled, everything went smoothly
