fuck riaa, they are taking away our right to have privacy in our own home. there is a sight commin soon with a petetion, ill give u the link.. heres the jist.

stop buying CD's of artists who are on labels supported by RIAA.

RIAA is putin out false statements that copying songs is hurting artist more than them. wtf is that. 94% of the money from a recorld album goes the the label. Artists are making more off radio and concerts, if anything, the internet is making them more famous. Fuck the RIAA, fight back.

okay, i just gotta say...please stop making the FARP video things. Its cool if you wanna make them and all, but dont make a website about it etc. Or at least get better first. You are hurting the industry. When snowboarders see skiers like Fred and Randall doing stupid flailing 360 attempts 8 inches off the ground, they laugh there heads off, and skiing takes another blow. When I buy albums from small distro's/labels it is about £6 a pop($12).

i dun think some of yall understand da point alot of us r making. da music is allready being given out fo free. Look at radio. If i recorded it off da radio and put that shit up on kazaa, would it still be illegal? it was broadcasted publicly, so does that mean that the radio station should be sued? no. what if i recorded it off of MTV, or those new motherfucking satalite stations that broadcast high quality music? would that be illegal? they are sueing us for shit that they give away. its like me telling a joke and then sueing everyone who tells it. the riaa is just pissed that for once technology aint working for them and they have no way to slove it but by throwing their high priced lawyers at innocent poeple poor people. its bullshit. fuck dem.

o brody dont just ell us we are wrong, if ur so high and mightly enlighten us. yah, radio has to pay for rights to play the songs, so once that is done, it is public, so should i be sued for listening to the radio? its the same concept in principle.

recording any music off the station is illegal, however sharing music is NOT illegal. Its kinda simple, we have software on our own windows media player that can copy from a CD onto your computer. I can borrow other ppls CD's, and copy those CD's music onto my computer. In the end, i still wont have to buy a CD, the only reason why i dont do this is because its inconvenient, and will take time. Not to mention i havta switch it to MP3 format so i can store more. If it is illegal to do this, than microsoft would have been sued for a fuckload of money, but guess what? They werent! Which means its totally legal to share music. The RIAA just wants to inconvenience people, so that unresourceful people must buy a cd, that pbly only has 1 or 2 good songs on it, so he can listen to them.

if you are so worried, use smaller programs. they still have filters, but not near as heavily as kazaa does

It just seems to me like they should give up. They are never going to get control of the situation. There will always be other programs out there and newer, faster, ways to rip music off cds. It seems like a waste of the RIAA's time and money. I read an article in the Wall Street Journal the other day. It stated that some of the new cd's coming out will be as low as $5 (USA) a piece. Lower the price of cd's to around 5 dollars would greatly increase the amount of cd's sold. At this price, it hardly becomes worth while for people to make cd's anymore. I see no reason why cd's cant cost around this price, after all, the cd and case probably cost a dime.. Surely their cant be that many other expenses.

please, sit down and listen.
Let's try and look at this from a business perspective. Try to see the greater picture here.
The truth is that mp3s open up the door to sample new music; music that people would have never found out about - if it wasn't for the world wide web. The ease of accessing songs makes it enjoyable and creates much greater interest in the music industry.

So what? Who cares if a few people make copies of cds.
'That means that bands will lose money because a few less people may buy the cd'

Companies trying to get rid of mp3s are failing to see the bigger picture here.

Had it not been for mp3s, users across the world would've never heard of the non-mainstream bands. Mp3s are a huge advertising campaign in itself. Free advertising for the record. Now that all these users found about the band, users will then purchase merchandise, tshirts, concerts, and its quite possible that they will go purchase the band's cd to support them.

And there is much, much, more money to be made at concerts, and by selling largely marked up merchandise than the cd itself.

Think BIGGER PICTURE.

Mp3s are here, and they are here to stay.
With new technology comes new business oportunities. And if organizations can not accept that, and fail to change with the times, they will get left in the dust

And likewise for mainstream bands, they benefit. Mp3s INCREASE the interest in the music community.

First, I'll venture to say mp3s do play a role in the decrease. But there are alot of other factors out there that contribute to the decrease, I have a feeling the other factors play a much greater role.

Secondly, if they see this from the bigger picture they would welcome it. So focused on the small decrease today that they fail to see the new customers of tomorrow.

In any business, to be successful, you have to be willing to take losses in order to make bigger returns down the road.

For example, let's look at the fast food industry. At Mcdonalds, you could buy a decent burger for $1.25 (or however much). Between all the shipping, refrigerating, and the product itself (toppings, sauce) and the work that goes into it.. they lose money on it.
BUT, they are willing to TAKE A LOSS. Essentially, they could give the burger away and still make money.
How?
Soda. They charge a buck for a drink, while that drink costs them a few cents.
See, they figure since you are in their restaurant and consumed their product, they can afford to give away food, because you are going to want a drink. and that's where they get you

THE SAME EXACT PRINCIPLE APPLIES FOR THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. But the RIAA fails to see it.

They could afford to give cd's away (there's not much money to be made on them anyhow, just like the food at mcdonalds). Now that you have that cd and like that music alot - you are a new consumer.
And the merchandise/concerts/etc. is where they could make their main profits.

Recording Industry Association of America-i thought they only got funds from record sales, and radio pitches. I'm just bein devils advocate here when i say this, but a lot of ppl also stopped listening to radio and declined watchin things like muchmusic.

i just download songs because its easier than going all the way to the music store (actually pretty far away) and its easier than registering to itunes or the new musicmatch thing. the fact that its free is just a bonus.

Shareaza is what I'm using now and it is pretty awesome...

It's pretty secure to and it uses three separate networks (only one of which is pseudo-centralized) and it can also use bit torrent shit and it's fast as hell for some stuff but don't be gay and not share your files because then all of us suffer and just because you don't share them doesn't mean that you're safe because you are still downloading and the files are still on your computer and stuff...

the concern isn't the small bands that WANT the exposure.

There was an interview with radiohead on the E! website just like today (I think) and he talks about filesharing and his point-of-view is pretty interesting because he doesn't take sides but you can tell that he is totally completely for file sharing... check it out:
